USMA Overnight Visit / LOE

A while back, my DS received what we thought was an LOE from his FFR. It was an email which just congratulated him on his nomination and encouraged him to finish up his application if he had not already done so (which he had). There was no specific mention of an invite for an overnight and I keep seeing posts about that. Do only certain applicants get invites or can/should we pursue this on our own? His 3Q letter posted on his portal on Dec. 3, and he secured his nomination in November, so we are just trying to figure what more he can do at this point other than wait. Any advice is appreciated.

Overnight tours are by invitation only, according to the website. If he receives an Offer of Appointment, he probably will be able to request an overnight visit.
He may even be able to request one now. He can find out by calling (845) 938-5760/5759 to see if they will do this sort of thing. I have no idea on that one.

My DD got a similar letter from her RC. She is green for everything on her portal but have not seen the 3Q letter post yet.

My DS received a LoE with specific authorization for an overnight visit. Now that he is 3Q with MOC nom he decided to visit in the dead of winter. Being from New England this shouldn’t be a shock. On the advice from others on this forum, he also set up a meeting with his RC at the conclusion of the visit.

What is a 3Qletter?
A letter from USMA telling the candidate that he/she is academically, physically, and medically qualified. With this status and a nomination, the candidate may receive an appointment. Most often the 3Q letter appears in the portal as a PDF file. A quick search of this site and you will find the exact verbage of the letter. Here it is...
We have received all your application information and the Admissions Committee

has qualified your file. West Point has eliminated rolling admissions for this cycle. As

such, all qualified applicants are placed on a National Waiting List until appointments

are made. Most appointments will be tendered between 26 February and 1 May 2019.

You have demonstrated strong initiative and diligence in completing your file.

Although qualified, you are still competing for admission and should continue to update

your record with significant achievements in academic, leadership, and extracurricular

and athletic activities. Do not forget to include standardized test scores or updated

transcripts from your most recently completed academic semester. We will continue to

add achievements to your file through the end of February 2019.

Although most offers of admission will be tendered before 1 May 2019, final

selection from the waiting list may be made only a few days before the class enters.

Thank you for your continuing interest in West Point. Go Army!

Just curious, did the LOE show up on your DS's portal or come as an email from his FFR?
