ROTC Cadet here who is commissioning in a few months. I understand USMA normally does a livestreamed "post night" in early February and I'd love to watch (and see what duty station slots are available). I googled a bit but couldn't find the date - could anyone tell me when this will be and if it'll be done like it normally is/where I can find a link?

Thanks a ton.

Remember also that Post are picked by Branch. If same as years past, they will show a bit of Infantry, Field Artillery, Armor, etc. As posted above, Italy has gone first. There is more thought given than appears. A Post can also mean a Division, e.g., Carson is mostly 4th Infantry Division or a Unit. Lots of thought from the Cadets behind choosing a Branch, Division and Unit that fits with their own personality.

Unless it's changed, if you branch Cyber, you don't need to attend Post Night (our son's cohort didn't). All Cyber reports to Ft. Gordon, and the remaining vestiges of Cyber at other posts, like Meade, are consolidating to Gordon.

Also may be influenced by significant other. Someone able to pick high may pick a less desirable post based upon the “other’s” rank.

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I can't seem to find the answer to it elsewhere. If I'm correct, everyone (with the exception of a few branches) gets to pick their post on Post Night. If you were to branch one of those exceptions, like aviation, what do you do in terms of picking a post?

DS is aviation - everyone goes to Rucker anyway so post selection is moot. Then depending on what airframe you ultimately get and needs of service etc. you go on to an applicable unit [not all posts have Apaches etc etc.]

But he does get to pick his flight school start date - ranges from July to next May so that's a big deal. He stands to get one of the first 2 dates in July as things look. [Appx 30 slots per class as I recall.]

[And as we all know the only stupid question is the one unasked ! 😉]

We received the schedule last night. Some of it will be on Facebook and others will be on the official West Point YouTube Channels. Depending on branch. Starting off around 7 p.m. and 7.30 tonight. Others will not be live streamed at all.

Minor point. I think the start dates they are bidding on is for BOLC (Basic Officer Leaders Course). Flight school is about 8 weeks later, assuming they don't have a break or "snowbird". Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
A little break wouldn't be bad, maybe spend the summer at West Point or elsewhere as a 2LT. But May... that's a long wait.

Thank you for the help! Also, congrats to your DS on getting one of the first two dates in July!
