If you are interested in applying to NASS, SLE and other summer programs, you may want to look at USMC SLCDA. Not as a replacement but as a supplement to gather as much exposure as possible when deciding if Service Academies and/or ROTC are a good route for you. DS went last summer (in addition to NASS and USMA SLE) and it was extremely impactful. Website is https://slcda.marines.com/ After SLCDA, DS is intent on pursuing USMC through USNA. Whether this happens, the experience was terrific in getting exposure to USMC and have more information in looking at careers through NROTC, ROTC, USMA and USNA. For SLCDA Requirements are:
  • Have completed your sophomore year in high school and be 16-18 years of age by the program start date (July 16, 2018)
  • Strong academics, minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent
  • Have participated in athletic, leadership, and service-oriented activities
  • Perform well on the Initial Strength Test
  • Possess leadership traits
  • Possess strong moral and ethical standards

My DD attended SLCDA two summers ago and it was a GREAT experience for her. She's a USNA candidate now and hoping for good news! :)

I really enjoyed my experience last summer at SLCDA. I wish I could do it again!
