Probably one of the most mismanaged procurement efforts of our time, but it's nice to see the old snakes finally getting replaced and overhauled. Having had to help Marine aircrews with broken Cobras in theater, I can say the W model was a bit long in the tooth. The Z adds a nice capability boost, especially with that new rotor hub.

The snake is still one of the prettiest helicopter designs around. I doubt the Viper name will ever stick.

Great to here they're finally being rolled out.

This quote was probably my favorite of the entire article:

“The target-sight system can out-range any of the weapon systems that are being deployed against this thing. We can now see things out at a distance where somebody can’t shoot back at us,”
