DS received an LOA from USMMA today conditional on getting a nomination (he has one), CFA (done), and medical qualification (under waiver review).

He has been under Waiver Review since Dec 15, so almost two months now. My understanding was that Waiver process is requested if a candidate is deemed competitive. Since he has an LOA, I am assuming he is competitive. So when can he expect a waiver review/ request? Anyone in a

Unfortunately waiver review has no set amount of time for processing and it's maddening. Our DS received a medical waiver approval from MMA but is still awaiting one for his Navy 4 year scholarship (which he's been approved on) and another waiver pending for USCGA. We have a really good DoDMERB rep that was helping us but unfortunately said it can take four weeks to six months. And he wasn't exaggerating, unfortunately.

Thank you. I realize that waiver process takes time but I was under the impression once the candidate file is reviewed and they are deemed competitive, waiver review process is initiated. His LOA is dated Feb 5, so USMMA knows for at least two days that he is competitive and will need a waiver. I was hoping DoDMerb or USMMA will initiate the waiver process around the same time.

DS has been under waiver review since 11/15. He also has an LOA. Additional AMI requested 12/26 and nothing since. Lesson in patience for sure. He also has 2 noms and completed CFA.

That makes me feel better. But I am also anxious because we have a month and some days left before all the appointments will be handed out. I don't want his chances hindered if the AMI request comes in late or we can't get a timely doctor's appointment. Can I ask what your DQ was for? My DS has it for asthma after 13 which he doesn't really but the doctor kept prescribing his asthma medication and inhaler, so that's what DoDMerb looked at.

From the looks of your user name it appears your DS may be a soccer recruit. My DS was in the same exact position last year with the same "asthma" issue. But he made it into the academy at the last minute. It was frustrating to say the least. Feel free to reach out to me directly and I'll be happy to walk you through our process. There may be some proactive steps you can take to grease the DoDMERB wheels.

I wish he was a soccer recruit or he played soccer. He doesn't. It is my old blogger name. But yes, I'd love to reach out and ask a few questions.

Just wanted to add here that my DS was never notified by anyone that he was under waiver review - the only way we knew was a letter posted to his DoDMERB portal from USMMA asking for an AIM. He was never sent an email that his DoDMERB portal had a new letter for him. So, in our experience, check DoDMERB every day for updates, that has been the most reliable way to know if anything is being requested.

Oh yes, we check the DoDMerb portal every day, multiple times, and even more since he got the LOA from USMMA. We were notified by USAFA that he had a DQ but it was not the end for him, but we never got the notification for "Under Waiver Review" by any of the academies. We are waiting for the AMIs now. Like I was telling @KP_Dad we climb one mountain and there are three more left to climb.

His DQ is from a knee injury (nothing torn) in spring football last May. This process feels like it is never ending. I'm praying for that medical waiver everyday.

I have been under waiver review for asthma over 13 since November. I got my waiver today.
I would send in midyear grades ASAP as mine seemed to be granted on the same day the midyear grades were sent in.
It's possibly a coincidence but that's how long it took. Also given the service academies like to initiate processes based off of requirements such as teacher recommendations, it's not a stretch to think that sending in midyear grades was the reason for them looking at my DoDMERB waiver.

Update: DoDMerb status is changed to "Awaiting Receipts of Remedial" though no idea what the remedial is.

What may have triggered it is him signing the LOA and emailing it on Sunday. Now, we wait to figure out what the remedial is.

Just to update this post: We got the AMI request the third week of Feb. Had his pulmonary consult and his PFT done on Feb 27. Additional AMIs asked of him were a complete record of all his doctor visits, any outpatient visits, surgeries, etc. He was also asked to provide a written statement and record of his average run times for the past six months, plus any medications, etc. Everything was submitted on Feb 29 (last Thursday). It's been a week since then, and the status has gone back to "Under waiver review."

This is the status DS has been in since 1/11/24........ he had a great call with the coaches yesterday so, I think that has helped ease his mind for now (although we all understand that really has no bearing on the Waiver Authority). Hopefully they review the stack of waiver requests ASAP for all our sakes. o_O
