I’ve been a member of SAF since January, and it’s been incredibly helpful during this journey. My DD is a plebe candidate for class of 2027. She chose USMMA over NROTC and NAPS waitlist. I have noticed that the USMMA thread is pretty dead compared to the other SA’s. I continue to read through the USNA forum because there are quite a few incredibly wise and witty people over there. I’ve seen the members support parents, Mids, and candidates repeatedly. They have definitely created a community, and I’d like to have that for USMMA as well. I know there are parent Facebook pages for each class, but those seem to be tightly controlled by the NPA, and the students have their own groups. However, this forum allows people to post with a certain amount of anonymity.

So, to kick things off, and with a nod to @Capt MJ, I’d like to get this started with a Class of 2027 Lost Paperwork Haiku challenge.

Basic Haiku format:
Line 1: 5 syllables
Line 2: 7 syllables
Line 3: 5 syllables

I’ll start:
We sent it Fedex
Thankful for tracking numbers
Just the beginning

My DS is an incoming Class of 2027 PC and I also prefer this forum over the one on Facebook controlled by the NPA. When I voiced my frustration over the loss of documents by the Academy and the inconsistencies between the instructions in the Academy Logging In Book and those provided on Facebook and Zoom calls, I was banned from posting comments for a week and my previously posted comments were deleted.

I am not as creative as you are! Feel free to comment/message/post. My son just finished his plebe year, and I am more than happy to help (provided I remember plebe year)!

I graduated decades ago and one of ours is starting with '27. KP is a life-changing experience (better appreciated after plebe year). Don't let the document fiasco or other things ruin the excitement, it'll be forgotten soon enough. They have some great experiences coming their way.

Made an inquiry regarding hopeful kp dad's comment. There was only one parent suspended from the '27 page for a brief period, and it was before the documents fiasco. A father was suspended from the page for posting pictures of PC's from a previous reporting day and then posting comments, when he was specifically told not to do that. His only comments deleted were those, and had nothing to do with documents. The NPA controls the FB pages to keep irresponsible posts like those off the pages. Hopeful, you say your sons is a PC in the class of '27 which means neither one of you has stepped foot on campus for more than a visit. Just my advice but I would dial the comments down a little.

For whatever the reason, one of the rules on these forums is you can not add a link to “social media“ and that may have been a reason for the deleted content. I’ve had content deleted for that reason but no big deal. Break the rules, learn by it, find an alternative, and move on.

It's hard to dial down comments with things like this happening..... It's simply unacceptable. So the description of "lost" paperwork is inaccurate.

Second, there was the issue of candidates submitting each of the 4 required documents back to the Academy using the Academy provided prepaid envelopes. For medical and dental, we learned around the 15th, that a majority of the class had not returned the medical, or dental forms. In our Ambassador call, we learned that over 200 had sent in the dental and medical, and the Academy was claiming under 100 were received, while the actual number for dental were slightly different, the issue was the same. We shared that the Academy was missing docs. We were told no, they checked.

In the days following that, we confirmed more was sent then the Academy was claiming to have received.

The Academy physically went to the Great Neck Post Office and it was discovered that the US Post Office was holding a couple bins of mail being sent to the Academy because the Academy had not paid the US Post Office bill the Academy owed the PO for a couple of weeks. So they were not delivering any government prepaid envelopes to the Academy until the Academy paid the outstanding bill.

I mean this respectfully... don't assume there is any sense of anonymity here (I really think anywhere). We all have a digital footprint here, using you as an example, you posted a DD from TX who plays volleyball, so respectfully, your cover is blown (as is mine). Unless you are truly mindful of every post, there really isn't anonymity here. Each "group" serves a purpose, and I think each is well intended, some are more sensitive than others. Last year there was a bit of a disagreement between NPA and the Cookie Cafe group. I was perplexed as in my mind as a plebe parent at the time, my only concern was my son making it to the next day, which he did, he made it through plebe year and he's now on a ship in the Mediterranean, just left Sicily headed to Crete, AND THAT'S WHAT MATTERS.

Yes, it is unacceptable. And it is also par for the course unfortunately at KP over the last few years. It's the latest example of incompetent individuals at the academy not being held accountable. A few years ago a large group midshipmen in the class of '22 were delayed leaving for sea year because the academy lost paperwork related to their MMC's. Commissions have been delayed for graduates due to delayed or missing paperwork. The Officer currently in charge of admissions should be fired for his failures not only this year, but from past years. Hopeful's complaint about the paperwork fiasco was accurate. His claim about being suspended from the parents page over his comments was not.
