USNA Applications Portal - “Nomination Recieved”

How does one know if their state does the primary nomination vs the slate where there are 10 nominations and the service academy chooses?
> You can of course contact the MOC office, and they will likely tell you. Otherwise, the MOC usually issues a press release with nominations. If the press release lists more than one person for each slot available, its

I'm assuming that the academy has to wait until the January 31 application deadline before an appointment from that state /slate is made?
> Yes...not just the January 31 deadline, but all candidates from the slate have to be reviewed before Noms and Appointments can look at all members of the slate.

In the nominations section of this site some candidates have said that their nomination letters specifically said whether it was a competitive slate or principal nomination with ranked alternates. My DS wasn't 100% sure based on his nomination letter so checked with his Senator's office (result: competitive slate). In that situation my understanding is that you are correct - the academy would have to wait until the Jan 31 deadline in order to assess all 10 (or fewer in some situations) candidates for each nomination spot. There is also a lot of good information under the FAQ post in Nominations: https://www.serviceacademyforums.com/index.php?threads/nominations-faq.33450/

Thanks for the info! Remaining hopeful, will probably hold out a while longer before contacting them. I'm sure they're a bit tied up given last week's shutdown activity.
jdawg, please let us know what you find out about "pending review" status means. I have a friend that just got this for USNA and the BGO doesn't know what it means.

Thanks for the help in understanding the process :)

Well, got our answer / confirmation through a different source today. DS got a call this afternoon from our Senator in DC who also gave him a nomination and congratulated him on the nomination and appointment to USNA!! Said it will take a couple days to get the paperwork from the academy, but wanted to call him personally. DS is flying so high right now I don’t think he can hear us from up there!! Feeling blessed, relieved, curious about next steps, proud, anxious, awed at how much all of these kids have gone through just to be considered —- all at the same time. Thanks to everyone on these threads for all the info so far, it’s truly a Godsend really to help us all understand the process. DS says portal still shows “complete pending review”, but assume that will change when the email comes through

It took two days to get the email for us. Then about a week until the certificate came in the mail.
