How does one know if their state does the primary nomination vs the slate where there are 10 nominations and the service academy chooses?

> Yes...not just the January 31 deadline, but all candidates from the slate have to be reviewed before Noms and Appointments can look at all members of the slate.I'm assuming that the academy has to wait until the January 31 application deadline before an appointment from that state /slate is made?
