USNA appointment after April 1?

Is it common to receive a USNA appointment on April 15 or are most rejections by that day?

They do happen. Realistically more TWEs will happen than BFEs at this point, but it doesn’t mean no appointments will be given either. Also we haven’t seen the wait list been given out yet either.

Forgive my ignorance ... what does it mean that the wait list is given out.

at some point in the next few weeks, USNA will notify a small number of candidates that they are waitlisted. some years a handful of waitlisted candidates eventually get appointed, other years there are none. they could find out right up till IDay that they are being offered a spot.

The wait list has traditionally been around 100 candidates. USNA’s yield is traditionally very high and they meet their number of allocated slots very closely. As the class becomes more solidified after May 1st, waivers solidify, etc USNA knows if they will meet their target number. If they are below that number, they will appoint those off the wait list. Traditionally this number has been very small and sometimes near zero in many year. USNA will give the option for a candidate to remain on this list or not. They also highly encourage someone on the wait list to pursue a plan B. If it follows like it has in past years, usually USNA will thin this list as time progresses and issue TWEs to those on the list.

Yes,, waitlist is still a long shot, but also an indication that you were high on USNA's list. If you are waitlisted and still interested, then follow the advice on the reapplication sticky above . It has been suggested here, and I've got no reason to doubt, that someone that is waitlisted has a pretty good shot next year (if they follow the Sticky advice).

Why would TWE "rejections" come out more than BFEs "appointment" at this point? Wouldn't all candidates receive a fair review and be determined at that review time if they are pass or fail? It would seem appropriate if a candidate did not pass by the review board they would notify the candidate so they can get on with their college choice. Unless they hold on to some candidates to see if after all are reviewed they compare better which would make sense on why so many CPRs are at this point. Unless of course this crisis has put the review board behind.

I was just reading this when my DS said he got waitlisted for USNA. He's already got an acceptance from West Point, but USNA is ranked higher for him. Here's to more waiting!

Good luck!
I had to smile when I saw this. Back in the 20th C, DH was waitlisted to USNA (got that first) and had an offer of appointment from USMA arrive by mail on a Saturday afternoon. His parents were gone overnight, and he and his brother were home alone. He declined USMA, much to the horror of his parents when they returned home on Sunday. About a week before I-Day, an offer from USNA arrived. He had already determined to go NROTC and re-apply, because he was dead set by that time on Navy air.

Scarcity. All candidates receive a fair review, but it is not binary pass/fail. Not to oversimplify the complex monster that is admissions, but there are a limited number of seats on the bus, and offers of appointment are not linear in terms of the rate of which they are announced. Students are determined qualified, or not qualified. Within the qualified pool, there is an order of merit with a dynamically moving cut line. In an overly simplified way of thinking, the rank order of the WCS sets the list and the data returning back into the admissions team about yield rates helps move the cut line. The school will continue to send out appointment offers to achieve their desired i-day enrollment level. At times, they could continue to make appointment offers right up until i-day to maximize the class size in relation to their target number.

Thank you! No news is good news still applies. Looks Like waitlists are coming out.
