USNA Basketball

Do midshipmen have to pay to attend home sporting events (ex. basketball)? Or is it free?

No.
Even better, it’s a duty to march over, do march on and attend home football games through the singing of Blue and Gold.
Better than that, plebes occasionally are voluntold to fill the stands at other sporting events.
As a Plebe, how many of the sporting events (other than football) are they allowed/able to attend?

It varies by Mid. Weekend events, as many as they want. Some sports get more a following than others. Women’s soccer had a huge following when I was there. Part of it is the field is close to the hall, it has an amazing view and once the humidity drops it can be a wonderful night.

Thanks for the info. Being able to attend the different sporting events was one of the things that my DS thought he'd miss out on. Even with their busy schedules, I'm glad he'll be able to go and also meet some of the other Mids from across the Brigade.

Plenty of chances to meet other Mids. They have very little free time so it’s a matter of prioritization.

If your Mid has young siblings bring a blanket and get "Bill The Goat" tickets for football during nice weather. North end and you will see all the pushups close up. Little DD was hoisted into the stands (I know not allowed) but she and all the Mids loved it. Yes, they do get charged for sporting events whether they attend or not even with duty obligation excuse. They will know all their company in a very short time others in the Brigade not so much.

> Back in the day, Plebes were required to attend one sport in the Yard each weekend. That was a way to promote Brigade spirit and ensure that someone was there supporting some of the less popular sports. However, time was often a limiting factor, so alot of Plebes would go to the sporting event that was shortest or most time efficient or fit their schedule.

> This is interesting. By the time a Midshipman graduates, he/she will have contact with a large number of their classmates It's always fun a Reunions, running the checklist of "how do I know this Classmate?" Company mates are obvious (and more numerous if they shuffle the Plebes youngster year). From there, you have people with common majors who have a lot of classes together (and with some majors, a common bond in dealing with a tough professor), and then groups who did summer training (Protramid) together. It's rare to meet a Classmate during Reunions that you don't have some connection to.
