Though I won't report to USNA until November, I'm in the final stretch of my dissertation and my family is getting ready to move to the Annapolis area. I'm long time BJJ practitioner / coach / competitor and heard there's a club on the yard, but the FB group had no schedule posted. Any insights? Once I'm in the area I'll want to continue training and figure the USNA club is a great option!

I am also interested in this and have looked into it a little. I am a first-degree black belt in MMA and a green belt in jiu-jitsu (green is the highest youth rank). I haven't looked into jiu-jitsu in particular but I noticed in their club list they even offer things like Marine Martial Arts.

I know during one of my visits to see the dude last year, we met in Dahlgren in the late afternoon, and the club was setting up and started practice while we were there. There were probably 30 - 40 kids there. It seems like a pretty robust club.

Nice. I've never heard of ranks in MMA (and I've been around this a long time) but green is super legit in BJJ. Marine Martial Arts (MCMAP) is fine and serves its purpose, but I know I've hemmed up many a MCMAP practitioner who only knew MCMAP.

Anyway, whenever I find out something I'll post it here.

Don't worry @Grapefruit , if you get in and your plebe year was anything like my kid's, there will be some opportunities for "ground fighting" between your and other companies. ;)

Kid had an upperclassman in his company who was an absolute beast in MMA/grappling. They had witnessed some shady stuff as the plebe's were going at it and called it out to the other company upperclassmen, who refused to do anything about it. Ended up throwing down (in the competitive spirit, not actual fighting), and my kid's company-mate destroyed the other people. Like, embarrassing level.

My kid usually got tapped out and rarely earned any "points" for his team. ;)

There is a BJJ club, along with Judo, Boxing, and Mauy Thai. BJJ tends to meet most mornings (0530-0630) and during sports period (1600-1730) in Dahlgren Hall. When you show up you can ask to be put on the email list where they will send out more information about the schedule, competitions, etc...

Awesome, thank you!
