USNA Chances

I am new to this forum and currently a sophomore in high school and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I have a chance at getting accepted into USNA or give me advice on what to do in the future to increase my chances. In athletics, I have lettered on a varsity team both my freshman and sophomore year. Freshman year I was the #2 player on the team and got all-league and this year I was #1 and got MVP as well as athlete of the month for my school. The coach has guaranteed me a spot as Captain my senior year (the only year we can be captains) and I was team manager for the boys’ team. Academics is the area where I am struggling the most. Last year I went to a specialized STEM school that didn’t have any sports teams. Because of that, I had to play for my home school and leave my actual school very early every day just to get to practices and matches. My teachers did not let me make up the work I missed so I had many missing assignments that caused my GPA take a huge hit. I had around a 3.1. I then transferred to my home school for my sophomore year where I am at now. In the first semester I earned about a 3.8 GPA. I am trying to earn an IB certificate in science and math. I took the PSAT this year and got in the 95% percentile. I also competed in Science Fair and Science Olympiad for my school. I am currently starting an Engineering club at my school that should be official early next year. Next year the courses I should be taking are AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP US History, AP Environmental Science, Honors American Lit, and Spanish 3. Would anybody be willing to try and guess at my chances or give me any suggestions for the future? Thanks!

You sound like a very competitive candidate, just try to keep your gpa up. You are taking very challenging courses which will make you stand out, they will notice you’re pushing yourself and that will be good sign to them. No one can tell you your chances of getting in as we aren’t the admissions board, but you seem like a very competitive, I really think starting the engineering club at your school will make you stand out. Keep pushing your self in athletics and academics. I believe in you!

Good grades...good ACT...good athletics ....good extracurricular activities...describes at least half of USNA applicants. Beyond that, its competitive, i.e. is your record better than the next guy/gal in your nomination pool. No one here can really "chance you". Keep pushing the grades up ... 3.1 is something that takes a awhile to recover from, but if you show consistent performance since then, it will be a good story for the Admissions Board. Bottom line, keep doing what you are doing and you will be competitive, and remember 100% of those that don't complete their application don't get an appointment.
