I received an email at 11:24 AM saying that I was "offered a fully qualified offer of appointment to the United States Naval Academy, class of 2025". I did not receive any type of call

Not a dumb question at all. I was trying to figure this out recently as well. DD got a call from her nominating MOC yesterday on her drive home from school (she was hands free obviously ;)). Others have gotten calls from their BGO. Not all MOC's or BGO's may take the time (or have the time) to call, but I think the academy gives them 5 days to reach out and share the news before they would post it to the portal or send an email. Sounds like the BFE is running about two weeks behind the posting on the portal.
 
DS called his MOC office yesterday. They have not posted the usual list of candidates that have been nominated from our district, and he wanted to know if one was going to be published and if the MOC was going to call when an appointment is given for the slate. The response was that "We (meaning my DS) would know before they would if he was appointed". I found the answer odd based on what I have read here. Long story short, doesn't sound like our MOC calls, and DS will likely find out via email or portal.

That is correct. We found got the BFE on a Thursday by UPS. DS received an email that following Monday informing him that if he hasn’t he would be getting and envelope soon stating he was fully appointed. His portal updated that same day.
 
My son would be beyond thrilled to receive an appointment, ANY way it comes (from any of the three academies he’s still in the running for). But gosh, a little pomp and circumstance would be nice and much appreciated after surviving this process!

Actually BGOs should NOT call and we are repeatedly reminded that even if we see it change on the BGO portal, the MOCs have
the right to make the call so we are warned to avoid spilling the beans for at least 5 days.
