USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

I am still CPR. Anyone else? What does this mean?
I'm not sure anyone can tell you what it means besides you are still in it. I would have guessed earlier in the week that most of the TWE and WL were sent out as they were finalizing calls to MOCs and things for today. However, enough TWE and NAPS/WL are still coming through that it looks like they are still actively settling decisions in both directions. Keep your hopes up, your decision should be soon!

DD is still CPR as well.

My daughter got her official email today and she got in! She was so surprised as she didn't think it was going to happen. She had given up hope and had accepted a Falcon Foundation Scholarship. She has signed a contract with one of the foundation schools to attend in the fall. Her mind is reeling right now on what to do. Ever since NASS, USNA was her first choice and USAFA was her second. This past month (she was offered the FFS exactly one month ago today) she has been thinking Air Force was it and getting excited about their opportunities. She even went and toured USAFA and talked to other FFS recipients at USAFA who recently graduated with the class of 2022. She was guarding her heart that USNA wasn't going to happen and now she is sooooooo surprised and overwhelmed. What a huge decision that she has to make and she understands how blessed she is. I don't know what to tell her either. We told her to think about it over the weekend and talk to some former officers from USNA as well.

Thank you!

Thanks, I feel the same! I found out a few hours before DS and it gave me time to get it out before I saw him. Then I waited for him to be ready to bring it to me. It was a tough day....
My heart hurts for you . I’ve been following your posts and know you have an incredible history with USNA and that you had so much going on with the family move . DS sounds like an incredible young man . Thank your DH for his service to our country and also for your sacrifices while supporting him. I wish your son the absolute best at Virginia Tech, it’s an amazing place .

Congrats! She has two great options. Agree to give it some time. Make the decision after the excitement dies down. Comes down to which service is best for her. And don’t let the FFS be a determination. 4 vs 5 years is really so minor in the scheme of things.

My only input is to be absolutely committed that your DS is the point of the spear... don't ever contact anyone on his behalf (other than this forum) when needing q's answered, etc. Remember as a parent we are our children's support (good and bad times), and not the ones pursuing these goals and more importantly, living them. Good luck...sounds like he's got a great resume started!
I just want to absolutely agree with you here!! This is their journey and their work and their lives! But they are 17 and 18 year olds that just got the biggest disappointment of their lives. It’s absolutely crushing! My job as a parent is to help him see the other doors and other solutions and new ways to get to his dream. This year’s USNA closed to him but he’s so awesome and he will get there if that’s where he decides to be. If I can do some background work and give him some details on how the next doors open, then I’m gonna do it so that he has hope and small things HE can do now and onward to move forward past this tragedy. That’s why I asked y’all that have succeeded at it! Thanks again and good luck to everyone!!!:)

TWE today. Unfortunate. SAT 1390, ACT 31. Medically/Physically qualified, CPR (30 Jan 2023).
Fortunately, I have an outstanding plan B in Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University NROTC, where I will attend my freshman year, pursuing an Aerospace Engineering degree.
Go Eagles!
I will be reapplying to the USNA for Class of 2028. Received my denial via email notification. Portal updated to show the dreaded "Turned Down".
I’ll be in your unit!

This is 100% true, our son made every call, wrote every email, and went into every interview alone. My wife and I couldn’t believe when he said parents went into the interviews and waited in the hallway with the applicants.
Our local representative's liason always said they can tell if the applicant's doing it for themselves or their parents when they come in for an interview. And she said by not giving them a nomination, it gives them an "out" that they don't have to lie to their parents about. Thought that was very perceptive on the panel's part.

Congratulations on your appointment and on your commitment! This reply is please calling all help and advice and inspiration. How did you make this happen please? My son please needs advice on real tangible steps he can take starting now and through the year so that he does not get a turned down next year. He is determined to go to the USNA and be a navel officer for his whole career. A bit about him so you get the picture. He is a wrestler and in fantastic shape and almost maxed out the whole CFA, minus the run (7min) and the b-ball toss. Both of those he can practice and dominate at (I think under 6min mile and close to making b-ball throw). He has a 4.12 taking the absolute hardest classes in an extremely competitive Loudoun County (northern VA) high school (took 4 APs this year and all As). He coaches wrestling, tutors SAT, tutors math, and wrestles year round travel and captained both his HS and his travel team. He got 1390 SAT (took it 3 times, wants to get his math over 700 so will study hard and take it until he gets a higher score), 31 ACT (he’ll take this again and get math over 30). He wrote his BGO for some advice but hasn’t heard back; BGO believed he’d get appointed too. I heard USNA admissions will go through your app with you to direct you for next year. What other things can he do please? The hardest thing is to keep moving forward everyday positively. He still hasn’t heard in his NROTC (got a 98 ASVAB so only 1 pt for improvement). He only got into RPI for Nuclear Engineering but we can’t afford to send him unless he gets his NROTC. There are quite a few NROTC schools in Va, we have to find one with late or rolling admissions and try and get him there (any suggestions). Please any advice or things we aren’t looking at. He was too linear and we were too linear and we naively believed all the hype when he got that coveted Senatoral nomination (and given what everyone said). We were wrong and are now trying like heck to cast a wide net and get him back to where he wants to be, USNA. Thank you in advance for anyone’s help and advice and guidance! We please need small and big and detailed suggestions; literally any words of wisdom will help. Thanks again and good luck to all still chugging along!! I hope this might help some others here that got caught in the 12th purge:) love y’all and this forum!
Thanks to all who wrote me! I’ve condensed it for my son and made a timeline. Given this is what I’ve gleaned and it is not sanctioned (please chime in folks if I’m wrong). Thanks again! Good luck to everyone this year and next!!!

Tips for a USNA turn down and want to reapply:

-First look at this as a learning experience and an opportunity to mature and improve yourself; strengthen all your weaknesses
-Remember, USNA loves reaps; 1/3 of yearly appoints come from college students
-Get your USNA 2028 app started on 4/16 when the portal opens; don’t finish it but throw your hat in now
-Contact your BGO and meet with them to discuss ways to improve and get their take on your TWE and your strategy for reapplying
-Contact USNA admissions and meet with your Regional Director to go through 2027 app and where you can improve
-enroll in a 4yr College preferably with NROTC program, sign up for the plebe classes and get straight As
-do something ultra productive with your summer (take a job, find an internship, run a summer sports camp, tutor)
-ask for a new BGO, gets you a second great recommendation and gives the USNA two folks that are pulling for you
-take your SATs again and again until you get over 700 on math and verbal; study and keep at it
-max out your CFA, running (under 6min mile), push-ups and sit-ups are the most critical
-before you leave HS work with your current math and English teacher to set them up for USNA recs; it’s better to have those new college professors, but not if it’s huge lecture classes and they won’t know you personally
-keep up with your sport; do travel and tournaments and get involved in college as much as possible

Timeline for getting this done and crushing your 2028 USNA reapplication:

Today- (deadlines are 4/15 for some schools) apply to 4year colleges with NROTC programs in your state or local areas (do community college as a last ditch effort)
4/16- Start your reapplication on the USNA portal
By end of April-sign up to take 2 more SATs and ACTs- study before and get over 30 ACT on all parts and over 700 on SAT math and verbal
By end of April- meet with BGO discuss TWE and path forward
By end of April-develop and start CFA improvement plan (run a timed mile weekly and do 2 min sit-ups and 2 min push-ups- record times and improve each week)
May-finish out your HS strong, super grades and crush your AP exams
May-finalize your summer plan for working and internship and volunteering (be busy!)
Late May-begin your MOC (others) nom applications
Before you graduate- line up all your MOC and USNA recommendations (some will be from HS- your principal, guidance counselor and your senior year math and English)
June-graduate and start your summer plan
July-schedule and execute a meeting with your USNA Regional Director to find out what specifically you can improve
August-redo your CFA
Aug-follow up with teachers for recommendations
August-Complete your MOC (others) nom applications; if you have personal contacts with these then reach out directly; get all recommendations in for noms and USNA
Late August-start college, kick butt at school and NROTC and your sport
Oct/Nov/Dec- BGO and MOC (others) interviews
Dec-rewrite and perfect USNA essays and application
Once 1st semester college grades are out- submit your USNA reapplication for 2028!

Some don’t s:
Don’t take a gap year
Don’t enlist
Don’t do prep school
And
Don’t worry about re-doing DODMERB (good for two years!)

Good luck all! I hope this gives all the TWE’s some focused direction and positive steps forward! You all are awesome and you CAN do this! Heck, you did it once!!

This really means a lot, thank you 🙏🏼. In slightly good news it seems like DH’s orders are ready to be published today or tomorrow so we can finally make some progress on the chaos. And not going to PPW gives me an extra few days to get my girls settled in a new country before school starts. Take the wins lol

The other good part about having the kid do it all (as it obviously should be) is that you learn so much about your kid! I was flabbergasted reading his many many essays! I laughed and cried and realized just how darn awesome he was!! We are cheerleaders and support and guidance but this is their journey all the way!!!
