USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

At 7:00am this morning I checked my portal and nothing had changed. Still CPR. I noticed an update was done yesterday at 4:00pm. But nothing after that. After reading all the comentary above, I decided to check again at 2:28pm. Usually I would check 2 times a day but this week I increased it to 3 times a day. At 10:01am today I received a NAPS wait listed offer. I still need a medical waiver. I accepted my offer at 2:30. I am beyond blessed, grateful, appreciative, & humbled! I will be a first generation Navy Officer. I was awarded a NROTC 4 year scholarship and will utilize that at The Citadel should something go wrong and I don't receive a full offer to NAPS. Many generations before me were enlist right out of high school. All volunteered to serve our Beautiful United States of America. I love my country and want to go out and protect our freedoms but also assist other nations who look to America for it's leadership and protection. I prayed last night that God, with His Glory & Wisdom, put me on the path he sees fit. Today I am celebrating this journey he has set before me!

Hello, everyone! I just wanted to just write part of my journey. My journey started when I got the chance to attend summer seminar in 2020, but that year was online because of COVID. Even though it was online, I had the best experience. After that I started my application for USNA and I had a big thing against me and it was an SAT score of 1000, ACT 20, also my mile run in the CFA was not stellar (I think it was 8:20). However, I still had other good things, like playing volleyball varsity for 4 years and being the captain for 3 years in a row. I also, was part of my school's marching band, part of the sea cadets and getting multiple awards, earning servsafe certificate, going to two medicine programs because my teachers recommended me and many other things. In that year cycle, I was able to get a nomination from my congressman and everything was good to go except for my DODMERB because USNA never let me do it, since that year they did it different because of COVID; obviously this ended up being a TWE.

Now, I am currently a sophomore in college and I always had the burning desire to reapply but did not know if I should, since I was not sure if I was competitive. However, I decided to submit a preliminary application in June of 2022 and got my candidate number and everything, but was not sure still if I should reapply. Then in July 2022 I received an email to apply for the inspire program. Even though it seemeda great program I was not sure if I should apply, since I did not know if I was going to apply to USNA again. I remember, they gave 6 days to submit the form for the Inspire program and I decided to complete the form on the due date, one hour before it was due. I wrote the essay with all the things I was holding in my heart for those two years; I thought I again I had no chance of getting into the program, but I did! Going to USNA and hearing the stories from the midshipmen gave me the strength to keep pushing for my dreams. I was not prepare at all to reapply to USNA. But as soon as I got back home I started working on it. The deadlines for a nomination from my senators passed and I was only able to submit the application for my congressman nomination. I never was sure if I was going to apply again, therefore I never retook my SAT of 1000 and for my congressman application I went with that SAT. I knew I had a little disadvantage in that area, but when giving interviews I always give the best interview I could by being myself and letting them know that I had a lot to offer and that my SAT did not define me. I remember how they let me know that they would never forget my interview and to keep fighting. I was able to secure a nomination from my congressman. I retook my SAT twice since there were no more dates available, and I was able to get 1080, which it was not great at all still, and I got the same score for my ACT of 20. I was feeling very discourage since I knew this is not competitive at all. But, I still submitted them to USNA. After waiting all these months for a response, yesterday I was put on the Wait list for USNA. It is not the best outcome but is not bad either. I am happy that I kept pushing even when everything seemed against me and glad USNA was able to see something in me.

For future applicants, never give up even when something is not stellar in your application, instead use it as your strength and let everyone know that you will keep trying even when odds seem against you, that is how you become a true leader. Furthermore, always be yourself when doing interviews and be honest, the people that interviews you want to get to know who you are and what you have to offer. Stats are an important part but it does not define yourself. Keep fighting for your dreams!

My DD just checked her portal. She didn't get an appointment or a turned down but it says that she has been offered an appointment with ACCEPT or DECLINE buttons to NAPS waitlist? I didn't know that NAPS has a waitlist? So she's been offered an appointment to the NAPS waitlist?

NAPS has a waitlist and she’s being offered the opportunity to be on the NAPS waitlist. Commit to alternate plans, but she’s still in it!

I was not waitlisted, that was during the crazy COVID year and the new system. I'm probably the only candidate here who remembers the old CIS with that ugly yellow background 😂. I had a lot of bad things happen to me my freshman year of college (much of it my fault, some of it just plain bad luck) and I was set back in school a while. My school doesn't have NROTC, and at my current school I'd be set to graduate Spring of '26, so OCS is still pretty far away. This year if I do get another TWE I will be transferring to Auburn to do the NROTC college program.

I know that my stats from that first year kinda drag me down, but I know Navy likes a good rebound. I went from a 2.05 GPA and no extracurriculars to a 3.1 GPA and captain of the rowing team, undergrad chemistry researcher, organic chemistry tutor and TA, and won several cadet awards (I go to an SMC). Hopefully the comeback will get me a BFE, but if not, the application process helped me become more well rounded and disciplined.
Ahhhh rowing; food for the "Type A" soul.

Might be hard to see it from here, but that first year of college looks like it was far from wasted.

"the application process helped me become more well rounded and disciplined"

OK but that application you made says a lot about who you are too. "Pick me! I value honor and commitment". "Pick me! bring on the longer days, the harder work, the mud, the formations, plebe summer, Mandatory Fun, Etc.". "Pick me! I want to compete with the best". "Pick me: I am willing do whatever it takes to become a leader in the service of my country".

For me, thats what your application says about you; and every other applicant, who applied to an SA, then did the work, and sweated the bullets to get through this process. I wish this didn't come down to "winners and losers," but it does every year. That said, it would be interesting I think to see where young people who pull TWE's end up 10years down the road. I wish there were some way I could take an "equity position" in all the SA TWE types.

I think the application says more about the person you are than an appointment does. Parents of applicants have every right to be Proud as Hell of their DDs/DSs, appointments not withstanding. Whatever the result, you are still in the early rounds / first quarter.

BTW: I like you guys who play the longer odds with your applications, ( looks like yours has found some traction). Out here in the private sector, you guys with "a story to sell" and the guts to make your case have lots of applications: (Lawyers, Tech Sales, Start-UP promoters/CEOs)

Are you going to do NROTC there? Fine way to go if your ultimate goal is to commission and serve. You would also be eligible to apply for the ROTC nom, in case you decided to re-apply. Your DoDMERB exam is good for 2 years.
I applied for an NROTC scholarship but still have not heard back. I’m really not sure what to do about that because I have emailed my coordinator a few times about it but she does not know my application status. I thought I was supposed to hear back by now for the scholarship. I will contact Georgia Tech’s NROTC program as well about doing the program without the scholarship, as I believe that is a potential route I can go while applying for a 3-year scholarship next year. Thanks for the other info!

From what I've heard, NROTC is supposed to notify by the end of the month so if your application doesn't have a decision yet you still have time.

Have you posted over in the NROTC thread? There is a very knowledgeable poster who has been exceptionally helpful at updating when decisions are going out and when they can be expected.

Ok, thank you. I was awarded a scholarship to a Flight Academy this summer sponsored by NJROTC so I’m concerned about NSI interfering with the flight academy. I was hoping to hear back by now so I could get a waiver to push back NSI to next summer so I can pursue this scholarship and get my Private Pilot License, but since I needed to get the waiver by April 14, I guess I won’t be able to do this academy if I get the NROTC scholarship.
