USNA Class of 2029 Waiting, Speculating, Hoping

@Birdman Sorry about the news, to get this far in this process you have an outstanding kid, hats off to him for wanting to serve. We’ve enjoyed your number analysis posts to the SAF, thanks for all the contributions. All the best for his next steps - I’m sure he will do amazing things!
Thank you, @GoatBoat5 ! Best to you and your family.

For all who receive the dreaded TD: This weekend my DD (plebe) asked to come home. So, on Saturday at 12 noon I arrived at Mother B. Well, she asked if we could take another 5 plebes from her company who were going to one of the Mids home near DC to attend a concert. Luckily we have van and we had lots of company for the 90 min ride. Of the 4 plebes 1 was a recruited athlete, 1 was NAPS, 1 was standard direct and 2 were reapplicants. From what is have seen on this forum, the USNA looks favorably to reapplicants who mimic the Plebe Fall courses and have a good GPA. So, GO TO PLAN B AND REAPPLY!. YOUR ODDS ARE MUCH BETTER THE 2nd TIME. GOOD LUCK!

Anyone heard that they are now telling people they want until April 21st to send out final decisions? My son said that is what his high school counselor(s) is telling a number of kids from his school who applied and are still waiting.

I think April 21st is the USAFA date. Today was the goal for USNA. Tea leaf reading.......maybe they told MOCs decisions for appointments today and it will go in the portal by the end of the week?

I have. I didn’t fall in love like I did ERAU and USNA, but it’s an option… I mean, 4 years there to become a naval aviator with USN, it would be worth it.
My DS was turned down last year, had a great year at ERAU and is part of the class of ‘29. He was not a huge fan of USMMA and thought a second try at USNA was worth it.

USMMA is definitely in need of lots of work. Keep in mind the new Sec of Transportation is committed to investing lots of money there to get it out of its dilapidated (his exact word) state.

My DS was turned down this morning, but in the interest of sharing stats for those who didn’t make it, here are his:
  • GPA: 4.4/4.0 weighted. 3.9 unweighted (9 AP’s)
  • 1420 SAT
  • Varsity soccer and Select player. 2x captain
  • Varsity track and X-Country (Academic All State in Both)
  • Congressional Gold Medal Winner
  • Service League Officer – Community Service + Built orphanages in Costa Rica
  • Did summer intensive programs at Brown & Cambridge University (U.K.)
  • USNA Summer Seminar + Coast Guard AIM + Outward Bound
  • NHS + AP Scholar
  • Congressional Youth Advisory Council
  • 576 CFA Score (out of 600)
  • 2 noms (Senator Cruz + Local Congressman)
  • NROTC Scholarship winner
Plan is to now choose between USMMA and GWU NROTC. I believe he will be choosing the latter.

Good luck to everyone, and I’m sorry we won’t be able to join you all for drinks and dinner in DTA. But any of you who got in definitely deserved it!
Wow...sounds like USNA missed out on a great kid.

I had one go through GWU NROTC and is now in the fleet doing great. It's a great unit and I know your son will go on to do great things in the fleet.

April 21 is Air Force deadline maybe mixing them up?

I myself did a year at ERAU, not on NROTC, and applied a second time to USNA for the class of 2026. I love the decision I made, yes the change from full freedom to limited/none is tough, but I wouldn’t change a thing. Month or two into ERAU I know I still wanted USNA and so I went for it again. Got waitlisted on April 15, 2022 and found out I got an offer at the end of May, one month before I-day. You aren’t out until you are! Keep your head up y’all!

My DS has loved his year at Riddle. We just visited him for the last time last week, got to celebrate his birthday at Disney World and now waiting for him to come home in two weeks to celebrate him getting into USNA!! We are from the NW and visiting him this year has made me fall in love with Florida but I’m very happy to explore the Annapolis area the next four years!

I am shocked! What an amazing son you have. If he chooses USMMA and our DS does too (he is still debating Texas A&M w/NROTC Scholarship too) maybe they will connect since they are both from Texas!

This should be framed as an example of how flawed the admissions process is at Annapolis. I know just about every candidate from our area that gained admission over the last 3 cycles, and not one of them is even within a sniff of this resume, and I am in a mega competitive district/state. I am sure somebody will bloviate about “gotta win the slate” or “scores could be higher” blah blah, but the reality is that is one helluva tough and well rounded list of achievements, and has leadership and goal setter/overachiever written all over it. At the very least, a candidate like this should find a spot on the national list. Anyhow, best wishes to your student, I am sure they will do great things.
