Good afternoon! Before I go into my topic, I would like to introduce myself as a 3rd time reapplicant currently attending college and applying to both WP and USNA. My dream for the last four years has been to be accepted to the Naval Academy and hopefully pursue a medical career, be it right out of college or later through a lateral transfer from any of the communities. Currently, I am getting my feet wet in the medical field through EMS and have developed a great love and appreciation for the profession. I already have my state license and should be able to license as an AEMT by the end of the AC year. I'm curious to know if there are any opportunities to work for the school as a medical responder (albeit very limited in my scope of practice due to different state requirements and lack of a medical director) based on a pre-existing thread concerning firefighter departments.

I appreciate any and all advice! While commissioning with an excellent OOM is the primary objective, I would like to employ my prior experience wherever and whenever I can for my peers.

Are you talking g about working as an EMS while attending USNA?

Or

Are you talking about working for USNA as a civilian?

Operating as an responder while attending USNA. It's to my (albeit limited) understanding that some midshipmen work for school in capacities specific to prior training. For instance, a midshipman I encountered happened to be versed in firearms and thus worked with the antique pistols and rifles in the on-campus museum.

Have you considered kings point at all? We have a massive EMS program here for learning and working with the local (and giant) healthcare system of long island and nyc. It's not USNA but you're able to go army or navy if you wanted.

There is a similar thread regarding serving as a fire fighter. While I admire the desire to serve the community as a firefighter or EMS, and will defer to current Midshipman as to whether it is even feasible nowadays, I just have to comment that these questions do raise questions whether the OP really understands what attending a Service Academy entails. Unless things have changed a lot, a Midshipman is not going to have the flexibility in their schedule or ready availability to drop everything they are doing to answer a call. Your military obligations will always come first,

Never heard of anyone doing this. I concur with the above perspective that you generally don’t have much time to pursue outside interests especially during the first two years.

I was not aware King's Point had such an incredible opportunity! I greatly appreciate the information that has been posted. Admittedly, it is easy to focus on the future and its potential opportunities instead of preparing for the very real demands of plebe year. Should I be offered an appointment, I will absolutely bear your advice in mind so as to not stretch myself too thin.

I am getting my EMT-B right now and will be allowed/encouraged to work off campus on LI/NYC after May, it also gives me a resume builder and gets me off the watch billet. I wouldn't say come to KP because of it though, but it's an awesome unknown opportunity.
