I'm attending the USNA Inspire Program this weekend (essentially a CVW where they pay for your + a parent's transportation) as a junior in high school.
There is an optional CFA taking place the last morning of the program. I did a self-test CFA in the gym a couple days ago and my scores were very, very low - I haven't been to the gym in 6+ months (junior year is quite busy, but I should be going more) and I quit the only sport I played last year. I've been trying to get back in shape for the past two weeks, but it wasn't enough to substantially change my score. I've been nervous for the past couple of days about going to the USNA solely due to the CFA. I don't even know how I was accepted to Inspire without being in any substantial sports 😅

Should I take it, or would it be better to do more prep and take it at a later time? I'm going to the Inspire program to see if I want to apply to the USNA in the first place (I still am not set on applying to the academies; going to Inspire to understand what life is like there vs. a traditional college experience).

Thank you in advance!

if the CFA is optional AND you think you'll do poorly, AND you're not even sure you want to attend USNA, then I suggest you not take the CFA during Inspire.

On the flip side, if you do end up deciding to apply to USNA, I strongly encourage you to get more involved in athletics/sports right away. You will need to enjoy sports -- and do reasonably well at them -- in order to succeed at USNA. Consider that as part of your personal evaluation process in determining whether a SA is right for you.

Im going through the exact same thing lolll. Im also going to Inspire tomorrow!! I decided I would take it however thanks to the opinions of many people on this forum. Even though my scores r gonna end up pretty horrible it would be nice to see and feel what the cfa is like in real time surrounded by people who also want you to do well. Its also always retakeable and optional if you def don’t want to do it

If you’re a junior, your scores aren’t even counted towards your application.

That's reassuring :) I guess I'll see what the other Inspire attendees are thinking of doing and base my decision on that.
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!
