Hello All,
I am a current reapplicant for the Class of 2028, and I have come to an issue with timing and waiting on a decision from the Naval Academy. I currently attend an SMC.
I went into my NROTC battalion without a scholarship, joined officially as a college programmer at the beginning of the second semester, and then, in the early part of the semester, I was selected for a 3.5-year NROTC scholarship. I have yet to accept the scholarship because I am awaiting the Naval Academy’s decision. There is paperwork and medical that I need to complete to activate my scholarship, and once I swear in, the battalion wants me to begin the process of getting my CAC. I have completed my medical appointments, but there was some concern from the admin at my battalion because I needed a waiver from USNA for a minor illness in December, that if they filed the NROTC medical, it would nullify the USNA waiver I was granted. I also have a deadline to complete my NSI paperwork by April 1st.
Another concern I have is that I have earned a job in one of the training companies next year at my school, so I will be directly involved in the training of the new Cadets, which requires significant commitment. So, if I am fortunate enough to receive an appointment, I will need to notify my company staff so they can find a replacement.
The problem I am running into is that I only have until April 27th, when my school’s graduation is, and I will return to my home state across the country. If I were to receive a decision around April 15th, I would have less than two weeks to complete all of the paperwork and medical.
Before my spring break, I emailed Admissions, and they told me to check in with them a few weeks before my deadlines; I emailed admissions last Tuesday (a week after my spring break) to check in, but I have not received an answer. I also emailed my MOC, and given the answer I received, it does not appear that USNA has appointed anyone from my district. I have also emailed USNA’s medical team to ask if starting the NROTC review would nullify my waiver, but have yet to receive an answer.
Thanks for reading about my dilemma. I’m feeling really stuck right now and not sure what else to do right now other than wait, but open to any ideas, advice or suggestions!
