I have seen many post pertaining to the NWL, mostly in regard to USMA? Does USNA have something similar and are candidates given official notification that they have been placed on it like USMA candidates are?

No notification of whether an applicant is fully qualified.

It is essentially the same concept, though. A list grows of all those who are fully qualified with a nom, and USNA picks from that list to build out the class, following nom source rules, and other internal guidelines.

The way it’s worked the last few years I’ve been around, and for us, is USNA continues to offer to their goal date. April 15th is the date they state that as their goal to let everyone know by.

Sometime around then, Admissions emailed a group of candidates individually, inquiring if they would like to stay on a WAITLIST, requiring an affirmation response if yes. No idea how many were on that list last year, but my son was one. I believe there was a thread made for ‘waitlisters’ last year. As time moved on, some were selected, some were TWE’ed.

Loooong wait. A few of us here made a message group, and waited. And more waiting! DS was ultimately offered mid May. As was another from our waitlist group. Some received TWE’s.

The other interesting thing, is doing the math for senators and congress people for our state, it didn’t make sense how DS could be appointed. But that’s the mystical madness that is called Admissions. Dont ask, just go along with the flow.

This last cycle, with the required ROM and staggered check in, it’s was easy to throw one in after the first report day. Which happened for ‘24. Can’t imagine getting that call!

You will know if you are placed on that waitlist as you must affirm to an email address. They don’t leave you hanging. USNA has committed to their April 15th notification date this year, despite the extended application deadline.
