With everything going virtual lately, USNA Trident Scholars presented their projects virtually this year. USNA made these open to the public this year which I think provides a unique view to the program. If you are curious what a Trident Scholar is check out the website and you can watch their presentations. This is usually the culmination of a year or more worth of research for Mids selected for this highly competitive program.

@NavyHoops .... thank you for posting this. Are there PDFs of the papers? I am mostly interested in the “Secure Maps”, “Low Server Storage”, and “Computational Group Theory” problems.
.
Shouldn’t there be a link to the papers? PDFs of slide presentations as well?

Not sure what they are publishing or not. I am sure there are massive amounts of data and an extensive paper on it all, but maybe just didn’t publish it all for the public.

You are right. I was thinking public domain post peer reviewed papers. This is preliminary work. I am impressed.

I am surprised that research is invitation only (via the Trident scholars program only?). I realize resources are limited, but even the Anchors in every class will deliver some very surprising innovations. Shouldn’t all seniors have the same resources and opportunities?

Not necessarily. These are very high scholars, most going on to post grad work. Every major has a capstone project. So every Mid in every major completes a rather larger and extensive research paper, design, etc for that major. They all get presented in some format and peer reviewed. These are more in depth and extensive than the normal capstone project. Trident scholars are hand selected each year and most are ahead in their course work to allow that much time for research.

Somehow this year I have become a "reader/evaluator" of my university's version of something like Trident Scholar. The "how" in somehow is that I was "voluntold" by CINCHOUSE because they need the assistance. It is ironic though because I was pretty far from Trident Scholardom when I was in zone for it.
