Hi everyone! This is my first time posting here in this forum, as my first choice is USAFA. However, in the case that I am not appointed, I wanted to ask about opportunities at both Texas A&M and UT Austin. I have been accepted to both and have done my research on the both of them. I know the Corps is very acclaimed and a Senior Military College, while Detachment 825 at UT Austin is also very good. I have also attended information sessions for both (virtually), but I wanted to get everyone's two cents on what they think. I definitely want to serve in the Air Force as an Officer, and with both schools also both having great Engineering programs (I have been accepted on Aerospace Engineering degrees), but just want some more information from others as well. Thank you!

Now that's persistence and great attitude. I can't help you with your question, but wanted to commend you for your plans.

My DS was accepted to both and visited them both. After he visited, he crossed UT Austin off the list. The COC at A&M is very special group. Not sure if they are having the 'spend the night with the Corps" as A&M this year, but I highly recommend it if they are offering it. Both of them are great schools and have great ROTC programs - you can't go wrong either way. The COC experience at A&M will be a much different experience than just being in the ROTC detachment at UT Austin.

My DD and I visited TAMU and we’re just flat out sold because of the opportunities for non-ROTC students also. I guess being an SMC has its distinct advantages. The whole corps and its leaders are there to help you with your success at TAMU. There is something being part of the Corps that makes you so proud.

TAMU is one of the plan B options for DD.

Definitely. My dad was in ROTC at UTSA, but is pushing me towards the Corps. I am looking forwards to the structure of TAMU COC and how it mirrors a service academy, and I just feel like I'll have a much stronger sense of comradery. However, UT Austin is also a great school, and I definitely follow what you're saying. Thank you for posting this!

I haven't been given the opportunity to visit TAMU yet, but I definitely have seen how much pride the COC have for the organization and their school. This is looking like a much better Plan B now. Thank you so much!

Spent 15 years in Austin and I believe it would be much easier to get distracted in Austin than College Station. Spent time in the Army Veterinary Corp and a good friend of mine was part of the corp at TAMU and loved it. College Station has more of a small-town feel and for what it is worth it seemed to me the corp at TAMU seemed way more involved especially at football games almost like USMA cadets at games.

on a lighter note do you prefer maroon and white or burnt orange and white?🤭

Think of it this way: if USAFA is your top choice, then of the two alternates TAMU and the Corps is far more like USAFA than UT. I believe that TAMU is also the #1 producer of AF officers in ROTC.

Is it true that UT Austin offers $9,000 towards R&B and Engineering majors get an additional $5,000, nursing receives $2,000?
