Vacations at USAFA

Do you get any time off in summer, i know you wont be learning, but you will be handling the military aspect of USAFA, so is there like a week off or anything, and when i take vacations at USAFA, do I have to go to my parents or can i go anywhere i want to just get away, and also can i stay at the academy on vacations if i wanted to, i probably wont but i figured i could ask
 
Historically, you can petition for a specific block if there is another event you are scheduling around like a sibling wedding or date specific thing that is important. The needs of the Air Force will dictate the schedule, but there is some room for preference.

You can also self elect to STAY in lieu of your leave to take summer school. Some choose this to focus on a particularly difficult core course. It is not seen as a bad thing and it lets you go to one class ALL DAY for 3 weeks. I opted for this to take Thermodynamics and Astronautical Engineering. For me, the singular focus was much preferred to having 7-8 courses at the same time.
 
You can also give up some or all of your leave period to do more cool stuff - like a summer internship at places like JPL or AFRL or many other research organizations
