I know VP Nomination winners are far from typical, but could someone tell me what the “average” selectee for the USNA VP Nom would look like? I am CPR with no nomination and, unfortunately, no LOA (finished application late).

Below is what @A6E Dad said back in Feb 2019. Even if you don't have an LOA now, you could possibly meet the 2nd part of item #4 and then get an LOA. It happened to @MidCakePa DD where she got an LOA (albeit, to AF, she already had NA and WP appointments) toward the very end and then a nom quickly followed. No TWE, you're still in it to win it.

This is what was presented by the Dean of Admissions at BGO training:
  1. Don't skip the VP nomination application
  2. VP's office sends list of applicants to USNA, USNA decides who gets the nom
  3. All 10 who get the VP nom will get an appointment (some years it's 20)
  4. VP Noms are usually given to LOA recipients with no nom, and other highly qualified/highly desired candidates with no nom

First, don’t beat yourself up about when you submitted and no LOA. The majority of appointees do not have an LOA. Those are given as USNA sees fit, at any time in the cycle, for varying reasons. It would be easy to think, scanning these forums, they are common, but they are not. Just put those thoughts in a box and set aside.

Second, the VP nom - no way of telling the “average” candidate who gets those. They are at the discretion of USNA and how they want to use them. There are many states whose Senators and Representatives ascribe to the “spread the wealth” approach, and collaborate such that no one candidate earns more than 1 nom to 1 SA, no matter how many they applied to. Some stellar candidates are left without noms to their top choice. There are many others without a nom.

USNA builds out the class to meet various goals, and as they near the end of each year’s build, they are choosing with great care. If the candidate they want does not have a nom, they may choose to figure out a way for that candidate to get one.

I recognize this isn’t very helpful as a direct answer. There is no direct answer, and you have no control over this particular aspect of the process. Do your best to focus on what you can control, tend alternate plans, go PT for stress management.

Many thanks to you both for such in-depth responses. It is logical that there is no “correct” answer, and your advice is helpful. I do have to work on forgetting past regrets, I suppose hindsight truly is 20/20. It’s relieving to hear that 10 candidates can receive the VP Nom, I had been under the impression that only 1 candidate receives it each year. It would be a dream come true if I could receive a late LOA as mentioned in #4, but I do not know where I stand relative to other candidates. That said, I’m glad I’m still in it, for now.

Also, when I applied for the VP Nom I never got any feedback stating it had been received. I submitted another application to the VP Nom a month later, in case my first one had been an error, and the same thing happened. Is this normal?

It seems like it's hit or miss on feedback. See the below thread for some other people's experiences.

The VP can nominate 10 individuals but only one individual is slotted against the that opening each year (2 every 5 years just like an MOC) but you just need a nomination to be slotted as a Qualified Alternate or Additional Appointee. As stated above, admissions hold these back until the end and use them on highly desired candidates that do not have a nomination. That is why 99.9% of the time VP nominations also get an offer.
