VMI Acceptance

DS broke his in Football in 7th grade. 4 weeks to heal cleared enough to run. After 6 weeks he was fully cleared. He has time to heal and perhaps run at STP and perhaps do pushups and situps starting in mid July so he can be ready 21 Aug.

Hoping....hoping....hoping.

Broke mine. 4 weeks to heal. Another 2 to get back to 100%. Recommend he just doesn't use it all. Yeah it will suck for the first week getting back in shape, but if his base fitness is good, he will be fine.

Wow - I'm glad you healed quickly! Seems to be a common injury. Just worried about STP. He's in pretty good shape since he's a runner, but still..........wondering now if STP is going to be a plan or not. He does NOT want to have to exercise Plan B - he was more upset about that than the pain.

Call VMI and explain the situation and see what they advise regarding STP. I doubt at this point he needs to move on to Plan B. Worse case, he doesn't do STP and just reports at the regular time. That is nearly 2.5-3 months of healing time.

Can be excused from Physical activity during STP (and as a Rat). I would hope that they are healed by Matriculation. You do not want to be on GIM (name of mule that takes you to hospital in old days) as a Rat.

I worry about this sometimes. DS getting hurt before his scholarship kicks in, or something. But, we really have no control. This hits close to home as one of DS classmates drowned on Monday. 2.5 weeks before graduation. It is heartbreaking. We need to let our kids go and have fun. The thought that they could go swimming with friends and never come home. It is gutwrenching. His class lost another classmate in Nov 2013 due to a drunk driver. It has been a rough week for this class of 2015 and I imagine some sadness over their classmates that won't be joining them as they walk the stage.

Thank you. We talked to VMI today and we will see how he progresses. They were very understanding.

i am so very sorry! So hard for them!!!

If I remember correctly, they then have to take a remedial math course either at STP (if they are attending STP) or during the first semester. If taken during first semester, then they will be considered "behind" in their coursework and will be required to take a session of summer school at some point in the future to catch up and get in synch.

I'm sure he will pass. He has 90's in AP calc. I just hear the words math test and panic . He also has to take a German one. He had German last semester, not sure how fresh that is in his mind!

Hillcher, how is your son?

If you fail you need to take pre calculus instead of calculus, however since your son is in AP Calculus, if he scored sufficiently high enough of the AP test he could just opt out of Calc 1 and get the credits from there.

He got a green light to go to the beach with his best running friends and can attend STP with physical restrictions as long as Dr copeland and our Ortho connect and ok activities. He's feeling better but sore still.
