VMI Army branching question

My DS is a RAT at VMI. His dyke is receiving his Army branch detail next week. He is under the impression that Rats give their dykes a gift for this process. Does anyone have any experience with this and if so, what would be an appropriate gift?

caesarbc -- I am not a VMI Grad, but my DS is. He got his Army branch this time last year and he graduated in May. According to him, the only "traditional gift" from Rat to Dyke is at graduation. A gift with branching is not required and typically not expected.
