Has anyone heard of the status for the Vice Presidential nominations for Navy. I received a LOA, but wasn’t able to secure a Senator‘s or Congressman’s nomination. I’ve been waiting for the VP and am wondering if anyone has received one or can tell me about the time line.

Simply based on observations of the USNA appointment thread over the years, the VP noms tend to pop up near the end of the cycle. Admissions can use them strategically for candidates they desire who do not have a nom from other sources. Admissions can also tap the small stash of Superintendent’s discretionary noms.

Given you have no noms, and you are otherwise fully qualified, your LOA gives you a good shot. I suspect USNA works hard to “find” noms for those with LOAs who need them. There is a chance that even with an LOA, you won’t get an offer. Every year, it seems we see someone with an LOA who did not receive an offer of appointment.

I assume the condition in your LOA you had to satisfy was a nom?

Hope for the best, tend your alternate plans, PT to relieve stress and manage mood.

There might be some here who might suggest diplomatically checking with the staffer at your Representative’s office, letting them know you have an LOA, and is there any chance a nomination was not used or some other circumstance, etc. I have seen that suggested before, but can’t recall how successful that was. Yes, the deadline for noms is past, but if that’s the only thing blocking USNA from making an offer, they would probably be happy to use it rather than a VP or Supe’s nom.

I'm not sure if you are still in need of an answer, but I am in the same boat. I received a nomination to West Point, not USNA; I received an LOA from Navy in November and have been playing the waiting game. I received a call from my Regional Counselor stating that I was "in the running for the VP Nom." and that he would send my application to the Dean of Admissions for review. That call was about three weeks ago. I called my counselor this past Tuesday and he explained the process a little more in depth. VP noms will be given out no later than Monday ( April 13). When your application is being seen for a VP nom, rejection is not an option. You will either receive a nomination or be offered a position on the waitlist. You will receive a notification either way. If you are offered a position on the waitlist, you must confirm that you accept being on the waitlist. Then from there, they will pick people off the waitlist as needed.
Hopefully that helps!

Thanks, that’s good to know. I am in the same boat you are. I received an LOA in November, and got a call from my counselor about 3 weeks ago as well about the nomination. She didn’t give me any info on the timeline though, so thank you.

Did you hear back for the VP nomination. I didn’t receive any correspondence.

It seems to me from previous year’s posts it can just show up in your portal in some cases.

For what it's worth, according to a thread last year, there was a VP nom that came through 26APR. AFA appointment thread had 3 reported VP noms that were 28APR, 29APR and 1st week in May.

I have not heard anything yet. I was going to wait until the 15th (the unofficial cutoff) and call my regional counselor to discuss a timeline and to get "my ducks in a row".

DS did the same today. Emailed RC and he emailed back and then called. RC stated that the VP noms are getting selected "now" and DS could hear in the next few to days if DS gets that nom. Then the Supt gets to pick from what's left to round out the class. RC said that DS will definitely know by May 1st.
Makes me think about getting picked last in dodgeball...that was never a good feeling, but being picked last for USNA would be pretty awesome. Good luck to those remaining.

Although only a single data point, the VP nom seems to be the stealth fighter of the nomination process that appears at the last second out of nowhere, but packs plenty of punch. DS received one 3 years ago, the day before the USAFA deadline to fulfill an LOA, even though he'd already accepted USNA months prior. He didn't apply for it, but received it at the 11th hour.

Wanted to reach out again to anyone who is waiting for the VP Nom. I still haven’t heard anything yet, and I’m hoping no news is good news. My main concern is that I have other school‘s that I need to notify by May 1st. Does anyone have any extra information about this nom? I tried calling my RC last week, but I wasn’t called back

DS is waiting on waiver, but we are planning on putting deposit on May 1st at plan B if no decision. Cant risk losing out on both.

Call your MOC...no downside. At the very least he/she can inquire on your behalf.

@Mad_Cow

Sit tight. These are always among the last to pop up on the portal. The Service Academies manage these on behalf of the VP and decide who gets the VP nom. Unlike the other elected officials, there are no VP staffers to call about these.

No news is good news at this point. Tend your alternate plans and focus on what you can control.

Well, tomorrow is the last day I can wait before I lose my offers to my backup schools. I’m really hoping something comes on the earlier side tomorrow, as the Post Office closes at 1700, with my paperwork for my backups needing to be received by May 1st.

Have you reached out to their admissions to see if they would extend your decision deadline? DS got a couple week one while waiting for waiver.

You can accept your Plan B school, put a deposit down, and then if you get into the naval academy then you tell that college that you will not be attending (and probably lose your deposit) and then let the Naval Academy know you will attend. You will only be committed to one college at a time.

I received the VP nom today at 12:42. I will accept my offer of appointment! I was told by a regional director over the phon. I was also told that if a candidate if put on the VP list, but they don’t get it, they can get the Superintendent.

The end-of-cycle unicorn has been sighted! Congratulations. Did the VP nom and offer of appointment happen at the same time?
