DS has been awarded a 3 year to his top three schools and I think it's currently a showdown between VT and Creighton. He is a four year member of his school's Raider team and it has really defined him during his high school career (team ranked 2nd in the Nation this year at Molena, Ga. I'm in awe of anyone who does the Raider program. These kids are beasts). He would like to do something similar at college. Saw VT offered Ranger Challenge. Not sure about Creighton. Is anyone a Ranger or a former JROTC Raider currently going to VT? What opportunities are available for competitions?

FYI ma’am, every Army ROTC Battalion through the nation will have opportunity to participate in Ranger Challenge competition on the regional level. The winner of each Brigade, 8 totally, will have the chance to compete in the Sandhurst Competiton host in West Point. I could be wrong in detail but pretty sure if DS is willing and strong enough I believe he will be able to go to RC on behalf of VT.

Really need to get over there for a visit! We're several states away so will have to plan. Thanks for the reply! Mostly I think he wants to know whether they are a company unto themselves or classified as a sport? In high school, the team is classified as a Varsity team and has extensive try-outs and cuts. Would assume it was the same?

Where I’m from, it’s like both. A Ranger Platoon doing extra exercise to prepare for the competition. And yes there would be try out and only the most fit will go compete since a team is usually made up with 9 members, both males females. But not gonna lie, each Battalion all have their own training plan
