Wait list: Is this good? Possible Appointment Available Later?

I seem to remember that regular admissions stats from last year were posted but maybe not because I have not been able to find them. My son was really on the fence this year regarding the EA submission. We felt his ACT was going to be his weak point 28 composite at the time of submission. He had a lot of other things going for him from the leadership and athletics side. When he really scored high on the PFA he decided to go all in for EA and it paid off with an appointment. It's a tough call but I believe the acceptance rate is higher in EA than it is in regular admission and please, someone correct me if I am wrong.

Did your son apply far before the deadline? My son had similar scores, leadership, athletics, and top 5%, but he got prep school. We are actually happy with the extra year to prepare. He applied at the deadline.

The simple math is that there are more Appointments available to give during EA. If a candidate is strong I would suggest getting the app in during EA.

I'm curious if cmkigney's question can be answered. I have a hopeful 2021 candidate. USCGA is his first choice school and our first thought would be to apply EA. Seeing so many qualified candidates this year being wait listed, makes me think it would be better to wait for the regular decision pool. Any thoughts are most appreciated. Best wishes to everyone.

EA statistics for 2020, with a projected class size of 295 cadets, had 713 applications reviewed and 196 appointments issued. EA statistics for last year's 2019 class of 292 cadets was 648 applications reviewed and 171 appointments.

As Grevar stated, there are more appointments to give during EA. If the candidate is strong in their application, I would highly recommend apply EA.

Thank you for the very helpful responses! He's been working hard for this, as are all the other hopeful candidates. EA it will be then. Currently, waiting for AIM to open up.

How likely is it that someone that has been waitlisted is offered an appointment? Does anyone have some specific numbers from years past that showed how many does had opened up and how many waitlisted candidates were offered appointments?

DD was waitlisted tonight, and I know of one other. I know of three appointments offered from the EA waitlist, and other EA waitlisteds have recently been asked to update their status. Have any more from EA waitlisteds been offered appointments? Does anyone know how the EA and the RA waitlists will blend? Is there a good possibility that candidates will be pulled from the RA waitlist, or is this more like an "honorable mention"? We are grateful for the honor and hoping it becomes "worth the wait"!

My DD was wait listed! my question is the letter stated " Our wait list is not ranked". So how do they decide???
Don't think of it as a wait list, but more of an alternate pool. As appointments are declined and slots open up, admissions will do some more boards. They will only look at the wait listed students to fill the vacancies.

My DD was also wait listed. Keeping fingers crossed while holding onto Plan B's enrollment deposit for a few more weeks. Good luck to everyone!
