Wait List

I got wait listed for USNA too, but I got into USAFA. If I accept that appointment from USAFA, is there any way to get out of it if I do end up getting into USNA in May? If not that's fine, I'd happily just accept Air Force, but I'm curious.
Yes, spoke with USAFA admissions. You can accept then notify if you get another offer. My DS got appointment to USAFA prep. Still waiting on USNA.

For those wondering what that wait letter looks like. Also, based on 2024 stats, there were 18 people who accepted offers after May 1st so that appears to be pretty positive!

For those wondering about class size, offers handed out, and Wait List timing etc. the below information is quoted directly from the Wait List FAQ document sent to those who received a Wait List offer.

Overall class size:
"This year the United States Naval Academy (USNA) received over 16,000 applications for the Class of 2025. The candidate pool was among the most competitive ever, and the Admissions Board recommended a near-record number of candidates for appointment. We have offered appointments to approximately 1,364 of those students; we expect 1,170 students to accept our offer and enroll at USNA. If fewer than 1,170 students accept our offer, we will then offer admission to additional students who have been put on our Wait List."

Wait List Stats:
"We generally have between 70 and 120 names on our initial Wait List. The number offered appointments each year fluctuates, based on our acceptance rate and feedback from candidates."

Wait List Timing:
"The earliest you may hear about the Wait List is approximately the second week in May, and the latest may be mid-June"

Accept another School?
"Even if USNA is your first choice, you should pay a deposit at another school to guarantee that you will have a college opportunity next year. We must wait until after May 1, the decision deadline for students to whom we have offered appointments, to determine how many seats in the class will be filled at that time"

All the above information is directly from USNA.

I would speculate that for schools where the yield is somewhat unpredictable, this may be necessary and this year, this may apply even more so given the crazy year it's been.

However, the academies have such a high yield (very few people decline) they are

Thanks for sharing the details for Class of 2025 - sounds like all appointments have gone out with "have offered appointments".
Wait List went out today so the rest will be TWE's ... correct?

Just hang tight...y’all are trying to answer a question that cannot be answered! Who knows 🤷‍♀️??

Part of the process is waiting. Proceed with your back up plans. Adjust if an appointment is extended and you want to accept it. Its honestly THE answer. Y’all are close to the end. Don’t drive yourself nuts. Soon, you will know.

No, it doesnt Mean only TWE’s are left. Nowhere has admissions said that.

So where do candidates with loa but no nom would fall?
Given that a nomination is a prerequisite for an appointment, a candidate with an LOA and no nomination will, unfortunately, be on the sidelines looking inward. Unless a nomination is miraculously “found”, an appointment is not in the cards. Those candidates with a nomination and waitlisted are closer to being "in" and have a glimmer of hope for an appointment.

I thought those with LOA but no nom would have some kind of head-start on this over waitlist candidates.

DS waitlisted today. Plan B Georgia Tech
Are you a GA family or coming to GA Tech from another state? We are GA family still waiting. DS is headed to UGA if he receives a TWE. Wait has felt like it will never end. Eager at this point to know the answer! Hopefully coming soon- good or bad!

Good Luck to your son, I know the waiting is difficult

It’s not one and the same. In this instance your DS/DD will be appointed if the conditions are met. Since the condition is a nom, and no MOC or presidential, it would be waiting to see if they are chosen for a Supt or VP nom. Those in their spot are always late in the game. It’s not over until the TWE arrives. A waitlister will only be offered an appt if the yield falls below a certain number. They aren’t one and same. The waitlist exists to grab candidates off the list to fill reaming spots when the yield is lower than expected, finalizing waivers and any other one-offs.

DS waitlisted today as well. He remains hopeful but is also very excited for the confirmed plan. He was awarded a NROTC-MO scholarship and ultimately his goal is to commission as an officer in the US Marine Corps. Same outcome - different path - and we are proud parents! Stay positive and by walking you find a path....

DS, 3Q'd in Jan. With Nom. Hasn't been notified of being on waitlist. Is he automatically placed there, or is he still open for a possible appointment?
Any guidance would be appreciated.

USNA selects a number of applicants and asks if they would like to be placed on the waitlist. If you haven't received an email or portal notification saying such, then you aren't on the list. As for an appointment otherwise, the odds are extremely slim this late in the game (I'm in the same boat as you, 3Q'd and still waiting). There was a massive TWE wave this afternoon, and I expect another one to come tomorrow.

He received his Nom to USMA. Well, I guess we wait and see. You know what they say, Expect the worst and hope for the best!
