Waiting List even though I had already accepted appointment?

I am already certain that this will raise a couple of eyebrows, and I am in the same boat.

I had already accepted my appointment to West Point Class of 2027 last year in December 2022, and I am almost done with the Admit Kit for the accepted folks.

However, I looked at my portal today and saw a file under Official Correspondences titled "CANDIDATE FILE QUALIFIED," which was basically a letter that stated that I was fully qualified and placed on the national waitlist. My address, name, and everything else were correct on the letter.

Could this have been a mistake by admissions? I do not believe that I have done anything wrong that could have screwed me over for the appointment.

Please advise, cheers.

Sheesh! I’m sure it’s all fine, but I can only imagine the shock and confusion of that. Keep us posted.

You accepted your appointment and are completing your admit kit. Keep going. You are already part of the class. Go ahead and reach out to regional admissions officer or tech at USMA..even through the in portal messaging system but really. You are beyond all of that so don’t allow this to stress you out at all.

Nothing to be concerned about.

The generation of 3Q/NWL letters is separate from the process that makes appointments. Usually the 3Q letter is not sent if an appointment has been offered or imminent, but sometimes it happens.

EVERY qualified candidate is placed on the NWL. There is no such thing as a wait list for USMA in the sense that other colleges use wait lists - it is not a list of rejected candidates hoping a spot opens up. The NWL is simply a "holding area" for all qualified candidates, separating them from candidates that have been found unqualified or whose files are waiting for review.
