My SA application has been fully completed for a few months now, other than waiting on the waiver process. I have an LOA contingent on receiving a medical waiver. DoDMERB portal states “under waiver review”, and has stated that for almost two months now with no changes. Wondering if this is normal, or if I am missing something.

Same exact situation for my son so maybe it is normal. Hoping for you and for him that waivers are granted soon!

You are not alone. Same here and it has been almost 4 months for my DS with no changes.

The Admissions offices of SA's provide medical waivers, not DoDMERB. Contact them for waiver status. "Under waiver review" on the DoDMERB status line means all medical documentation is at the SA medical team for review, but Admissions determines if medical waiver consideration will occur. Google "DoDMERB;" Hit "Questions on the process;" If you are a parent, read paragraph 4. If you are an applicant, you must meet the criteria in paragraph 11-12....if so, 15-23 will apply (as appropriate for your specific case).:wiggle:

THE ABOVE IS ADDRESSED TO THE NUMBER OF YOU WITH THE SAME QUESTIONS....:zip:

Thank you sir!

In USNA Admissions webpage, there’s a daily chat session. On the upper right corner, click connect and the chat box will appear. Login with email, Facebook, Google. Type DS name and Candidate Number. Ask the LT/Admissions counselor about the pending waiver. LT will check the status for you with the med team. I understand about the “wait.” To have some sense of balance, we locked on plan B by sending the non refundable security deposit to an early action college. Hope this helps.

Thank you! I will try this out

my DD was under waiver review from September until January when she got her appointment.

I was in your situation for two months. Hang in there, you've probably heard the saying on here that this process is a marathon and not a sprint. Could not be more true. Focus on what you can control. If they requested any remedials from you, get those done and make sure you give them everything they ask for. Staying in touch with the medical folks there was helpful, and Mr. Mullen is also an excellent resource :)

I remembered being worried myself, but now I realize it wasn't worth that stress. It was out of my control, and I had done everything I needed to do. Things have a way of working themselves out. In the meantime, keep working hard. And I would suggest learning a song by The Police on an instrument (if you play one), it's a great way to pass the time.

I probably worded my response wrong...trying to ease the other posters mind that there are a lot of candidates in that same boat.

My DS was in contact with his admissions counselor a few weeks back and he confirmed that USNA has been notified of his medical status.

He also stated...things are a little delayed this year with medical, as most of our medical staff is also involved with COVID-19 testing/mitigation/vaccination for the Naval Academy and Washington D.C. Someone will contact you from the medical office regarding your waiver, but it may still take some time. The best advice I can offer you is to just sit tight. I apologize, I know this isn't ideal, but this is a unique year.

@rainman1193 and @CkzErz...I would confirm with your AC that the SA has received notice of your medical status.

thank you for the advice, and I play guitar so I will have to give one a try!

As everyone knows, I serve as a conduit for APPLICANTS...not PARENTS... :zip:
Thank you Mr. Mullen for the guidance you provide. It has been very helpful to my DS and much appreciated. :)

However you probably don't realize how much you have helped me as his Parent too. With your guidance, I have also learned to step back and let him lead this process and assist him as he requests (which has been rare that he has asked me for any help the past couple of months).

It is my honor and pleasure....The stories I could tell...High speed-low drag Flag officers using flag letterhead....are not used to hearing "I'm sorry, for the purposes of this exercise, you're just Mom or Dad and I don't want to talk to you." That usually gets the "I could have had a V8 type response." If it doesn't I become a bit more didactic :yikes: :zip: :wiggle:

I was also only trying to reassure the original poster that others are in the same boat. No question from me. To share some good news, there was finally movement on my son’s waiver today. He has been asked for AMI and I was lucky enough to be able to get him a doctor’s appointment tomorrow. Hoping all goes well for him and everyone else going through this.
