Duping my post from the “Waiting and Waiting thread.
The Waitlist (not the national waiting list or “the pool”)
The “waitlist” means USNA is in its end stage of building the class to a certain target size range. They are at the point they have built a list - no idea how many are on it - of applicants they would put in the class if they knew they had room. They are now waiting for others’ decisions to clarify how much room is left in the class, so they have a waitlist of folks to draw from if needed.
There is no way of knowing or predicting how many will come off the waitlist. There is no set size to the waitlist. It will all depend on how much room is left in the class. Look at it as “we will put you in the class if we can.” You are just outside the class door, and you don’t know how many times it will crack open and invite you in.
Keep an eye on your portals, phones and spam mail, and ensure you have a professional vmail prompt. It might come down to a direct call from an Admissions officer wanting to know your answer now or maybe within 24 hours.
As I said, it’s the end game now. Earlier in the process, when numbers were fluid, someone declining wasn’t necessarily a 1:1 immediate availability of a spot, as we know USNA makes more offers than they expect to accept, looking for a certain yield percentage. Now, though, USNA is moving to the goal line by direct management of the warm bodies needed to get to the point where the cycle goal is met.
It’s not the TWE! You’re still in the game.
