Hi All,
I need some advice. I have everything for the USNA except the waiver. I have LoA, and all other qualifications, but I need to be waived for my myopia (near sighted).
I've been checking the DODMERB site about 5 times a day, and this afternoon it changed to waiver denied.
I plan on appealing, and will be writing my appeal letter and calling the doctors to get letters from them. But I'm hoping to hear from folks who have been through the waiver appeal process so I can learn from them what works best and what didn't.
I was hopeful of getting the waiver for a variety of reasons.
1. I've been very active in sports for most of my life, skiing, boating, swimming, soccer, cross country, etc. and have never had any problems.
2. All 3 doctors that I saw for my DODMERB exams told me that my eyes were fine and there should be no reason why I should have trouble serving.
3. My prescription has been stable over the years.
4. One of the interviewers who gave me my MOC Nomination told me that his son had Myopia and received a waiver, and now fly's jets in Hawaii.
So I plan on callling all 3 doctors and getting them to write letters stating what they told me, about my eyes being healthy and not being a problem for a very physically active lifestyle. I plan on contacting the MOC interviewer to see if he can write a letter about his son getting a waiver for Myopia (to show precedence) and of course I'll have my own letter pleading my case.
Any other advice?
Thanks
Rosie
