Waiver disapproval through BUMED but continuing on...

Hi folks,
I've made a couple of posts over the last few years regarding my son's continued efforts to serve in uniform. In summary:

  1. Fall 2019-Fall 2020 - Enrolled AROTC while in his first and (start of) second years in college; DoDMERB cleared after much documentation due to past sports related injuries. Then covid happened, ROTC scholarship funding froze, and he left that school due to to ROI on the remote learning arrangement vs. finances. Back to square 1.
  2. Late 2020 - Back home, back in college locally, and started up the entry process for the PLC program.
  3. Spring 2021 - Doing well in all areas, including ASTB, but knew he'd need a waiver for renal calculus experienced at the beginning of 2020. Many exams, imaging, and paperwork submitted.
  4. Summer 2021 - Waiver disapproved by BUMED.

Current - Will graduate in December of 2022 and has been considering other branches. Was contacted by a different USMC recruiter locally to come in and resubmit his application packet (having fully disclosed his past process and result of course). I'm not sure how there is even a chance, with previous BUMED denial, but he's rolling with it in case something pleasantly unexpected happens.

In parallel, he's spoken with a USCG recruiter who essentially told him immediately that, since we was denied a waiver he must have been disqualified at MEPS. He told them he'd never been to MEPS but the recruiter seemed to think the waiver denial equated to DQ from MEPS across the board. This goes against most of what I've read here, and elsewhere, which is where my quandary comes in. I have no idea where to help advise my son to go at this point from a USCG perspective. I feel like perhaps the recruiter is misinformed but how does my son find out for certain. Ask to speak with someone else? Doesn't seem that would go over very well but he needs to know if he's at the end of his journey so he can move on. Any advice would be much appreciated.
