Waiver Granted for History of Asthma!

I’m so happy to announce that my daughter got her waiver granted today for AROTC! The waiver was for History of Asthma. She had been waiting on the waiver since she sent her remedial to DoDMERB on 3/16.
That's great news! What information did you send in for this? We are working on this now.

DS had his approved this year as well (Navy vs Army side). He sent in all 10-12 some odd pages of his pediatrician records that mentioned it at all, along with his Rx log showing the inhaler scripts. Since he had never been to a pulmonary specialist, he didn't have as much to send.

He also had the MCT done per their request. It took just over 4 months from AMI request received to waiver received.

To all - Not every waiver authority wants a Methacholine Challenge Test (MCCT). And NO waiver authority has a blanket policy. Again, waivers are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. That's why second guessing what a waiver authority may want does not serve anyone. :wiggle:

She did not need a MCCT. She was asked to see a pulmonologist to get a breathing test and send the waiver authority the results plus the doctor’s notes. I took her to a pulmonologist who is retired army. He knew exactly what the army was looking for and was able to write a note assuring the waiver authority that she met their requirements. She never actually had asthma. The diagnosis was a misdiagnosis.

Exciting news!! I‘m very happy for her! I’m working on an appeal for asthma and have my medical records. However, I can’t get an appointment for a Pulmonary Function Test until June. 😟 Good things come to those who wait......keeping my fingers crossed.🤞

My DD received waivers from USAFA and AFROTC for hx of asthma. She ended up doing pulmonary function tests, MCCT, and exercise stress tests- all negative for asthma. It is possible, but in some cases requires much persistence. Good luck to you!

That sucks! My daughter just mentioned that she was lucky getting into the pulmonologist right before everything closed up. Hopefully you’ll get your waiver by the time school starts. It’s hard being patient. Hang in there! I’ll look forward to seeing your post when your waiver comes in.

Interesting how the different waiver boards require different medical tests or more likely each candidates medical history is unique. It seems like if they want you and you can prove that you don’t have asthma then you’ll get the waiver.
