Morning everyone,
I am a Cadet at VMI, Class of 2024, and have been going through the process of attempting to get medically cleared for the past few months. I needed a waiver, which I got about 2 months back, but then had to conduct Remedials.

As of yesterday, my medical status changed from "Under DoDMERB review" to "Waiver Granted." However, I have received no correspondence from my DoDMERB technician regarding this change.

My question, in short, is whether this change indicates that I have been cleared for military service, or whether or not it's possible that I may have to conduct more remedial appointments.

Thank you all for your help, and I hope I can get this cleared up soon!

I believe if your status is "waiver granted" then that means you are cleared. However, the expert on this question would be Dr. Mullen - @MullenLE.

Thanks for your quick response! I'm waiting for correspondence and trying not to get my hopes up before getting official confirmation

You can try going to the DoDMERB website, looking at left-side menu, going into Contacts, finding your technician, and emailing them with your questions.

I ended up emailing my technician and he stated that no action was required by DoDMERB or the Waiver Authority at this time? What does this mean because I'm totally lost now

At this point, I think you can cautiously warm up for your happy dance, and wait for Mr. Mullen to confirm it means what you hope it means.

The phrasing of that response is key I think. Did you ask the technician if there was anything YOU needed to do? Because that response could be his way of saying there is nothing that DODMERB or the Waiver Authority need from you. Or it could mean they have done all they need to do. Hard to determine exactly.

Another option, assuming you are actually at the unit or you have contact with them, you can ask them to check the system. Some of the waivers (depending on how significant the condition) may require that NSTC approve. This could mean the item was sent over to NSTC and they are finalizing a letter of approval. Right now, they have one medical person who is pretty busy with NSI.

As mentioned by Capt MJ, Mr. Mullen will know for sure. But the DODMERB database just came back online, so I suspect he is a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest right now.

I asked essentially the same question I posted here, and he stated verbatim that "No action is required by DoDMERB or the Waiver Authority at this time," which admittedly confused me quite a bit

So based on what you just said.......you asked "My question, in short, is whether this change indicates that I have been cleared for military service, or whether or not it's possible that I may have to conduct more remedial appointments."

I think the technician's answer is a way of saying that neither DODMERB nor the waiver authority need remedial appointments from you at this time.

Which, as I understand it, is a good thing. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me work through this, sir. Even though I've been in this process for almost seven months, sometimes it still confuses me.

I just returned from a very busy TDY. The answer to the question is: The website is the official notification of the medical waiver authority's decision (not DoDMERBs). That complete your medical processing for accession...UNLESS...your medical/health status changes :wiggle:

Sir, thank you for your response especially during a busy time for you, and I appreciate the clarification. Regarding this issue, is it a reasonable assumption to say that I'll soon get the next steps in the contracting process from my ROTC department?
