I am currently in the process of getting a waiver (hopefully) but I know the process takes a while. What happens if I don't know if I'm medically approved and school has started?
Thank you in advance.

ROTC?
You will proceed as if the waiver will come through.

not pay back, you would pay up front and maybe be reimbursed, maybe not.
what waiver are you waiting for?
are you a 4 yr?

have you actually been DQ'd yet or just expecting to be?

It should change to pending waiver submission/ review next
Have you had any remedials?

Yes just last week, it's amazing they got it updated that fast. The neurologist I saw told me that nothing is wrong with me which is hopeful but I know the Navy may not see it that way.

somethings are automatic DQ.
Now the waiver process. If they can waive you they will. they already picked you, they will try to keep you, if they can.

So, something's they just have to go ahead and DQ you even though they know you could get a waiver? That sort of thing? I appreciate your help by the way!

There are two organizations: DoDMERB and the program (NROTC or USNA or AROTC etc.)

DoDMERB (located at Colorado Springs) evaluates your medical exam and has three choices: 1. Pass (yay!) 2. DQ (boo!) and 3. Remedial.

If you are DQ'd the file goes to NROTC and they evaluate you for a waiver. There are somethings that don't ever get waived (e.g. history of attempted suicide etc.). There are also times the DQ is easily waived. It depends on the situation and the needs of the program.

Here is a good blog describing DoDMERB by the Army ROO from Clarkson University on DoDMERB: (@clarksonarmy )

Sounds great thank you!

DoDMERB is not the waiver authority but rather a clearing house for information.
ROTC has an advantage over the SAs in that with an SA you need to be medically qualified prior to being selected, ROTC after.
So DoDMERB goes by the book and if they need to DQ they will.
Then your ROTC branch will decide if they are going to waive.
My so n got two waivers, one for previous shoulder injury, very common. the other for appendix surgery, almost always waived (after 6 months).
His process was exam in February and did not get his waivers until December.
you just have to push through, do what they ask. do it promptly and completely.
If they can waive you they will

Would you still go to the same college regardless of the ROTC scholarship? Can you afford that college if you don't get a waiver for the ROTC scholarship?

In that link it says you have two options, one of which says you can say you don't have it. I think I could actually pursue this and get it but I was never given the opportunity. How can I?
