My son has received conditional LOAs from both the Naval Academy and the Air Force Academy. He has a horseshoe shaped kidney (found out by accident and has caused no issues whatsoever) and was DQd by DodMERB. The Air Force Academy fast tracked his waiver process, immediately requested two rounds of additional information / tests and his waiver was granted (it took about 3-4 weeks). However, his portal shows no requests for additional information or testing on the Naval Academy side of things. Is there anything he can or should be doing to ensure he doesn't fall through the cracks with the Naval Academy (his first choice)? Will he have a firm yes or no by decision day?

My DS was DQd back in January and we had not heard anything either. We found an email address for USNA Admissions Medical and he emailed them. They responded pretty quickly and stated that he was in queue to be reviewed for a waiver and he should receive an email and notification from DoDMERB requesting any further documents to support a waiver. However, they could not tell him how long this process will take. It is very difficult waiting and not having answers for sure. He is a recruited athlete and has given up other opportunities because it wasn't fair to commit to other coaches when USNA is his first choice, but that has limited his plan B's and C's.

My DS received a conditional appointment last week to the USNA. He needs the waiver to go through after he was DQ'ed by DoDMERB for a hairline fracture he had back in the 7th grade. We noticed the following morning after receiving his condition appointment, his DQ status changed in DoDMERB to waiver review. We have not had anyone contact him and ask for anything yet. Just wondering, how long after the waiver process began did you hear from someone asking for additional medical information. We know he had a letter in his file from a specialist saying he was 100% and that he had no restrictions. My DS is a 3 sport athlete and the idea that he was DQ'ed for an injury 5 years ago was a surprise. just want this process to be over so we don't need to continue with backup plans. We can't wait for him to accept. Thanks

My DS received DoDMERB DQ on March 8. USAFA immediately requested AMI. On March 10 he received his LOA from USNA. On March 14 he received his LOA from USAFA. After two rounds of AMI he received his USAFA waiver on April 3. He still hasn't heard from anyone at USNA asking for AMI.

I received 1 disqualification and it's because I answered a question incorrectly on the DODMERB form. My doctor has written a letter for me that states I have never been diagnosed with the disqualification. My doctor's letter has been added to my DODMERB file. What are my chances of receiving a waiver for both the USNA and my NROTC scholarship?

Not all dqs require additional medical information.

My son was colorblind - there is no additional info needed.

When he was doing his medical exam, he brought up that he forgot to report a jones fracture he got playing basketball in eight grade. The doctor reported it for him.

It became an issue - my son explained to them that the doctor didn’t find it - he told the doctor to report it. They didn’t dq him, needed no additional information. He was a 3 sport starting athlete every year after including basketball.

A Jones fracture at his age is uncommon and could lead to a bone problem. He was playing basketball before the season started in open gym and was playing against varsity players. On the last play, he faked a three and drove on a tall varsity player. Shot a floater in the lane and landed on it wrong. A freak accident - not a genetic issue.

If the wait is killing you - contact admissions to see where it stands.

I would guess it would depend on the dq and your position on your slate - further medical review could be done, accepting the doctors correction could be done, or nothing could be done because you aren’t winning your slate.

I accepted my NROTC scholarship. They require a lot of forms (medical and others) to be mailed in. Hope this will all be cleared when the CMGO and medical team review these forms. I have played club soccer just about all my life and am Captain of my high school soccer team (we made the playoffs 2 years in a row 2022 & 2023). I passed my CFA while at the USNASS and then again at CWV with flying colors. Hope to earn a "fit to train", a waiver for the NROTC scholarship, and an assignment to NSI this summer. Still would like a USNA appointment or NAPS Appointment! I'm remaining optimistic!! LIFE IS GREAT!

AFROTC and USAFA were very fast for my kids AMI and waiver last year. USMA never did anything after giving my kid a LOA in August and just sat on it.
