Waiver Under Review for USAFA - When to send additional information?

My daughter's waiver is under review. The DoDmerb letter states "any additional medical information you submit now will be forwarded for the waiver authority's review". We asked our DoDmerb contact about this since we wanted to be sure - and he said wait until the waiver authority asks for additional information. Wondering what others have done. The code my daughter was put under includes other conditions that she does not have - so we want it to be clarified.

Your DD should check the portal and DoDmerb will communicate via email what they need for AMI if needed. Just need to patiently wait. Good Luck!

My DoDMERB portal also says I’m “Under Waiver Review” does anyone know the timeframe to hear back from USAFA Waiver authority? I was DQd on November 2nd. Currently waiting patiently. I would also send any information pertaining to your case to DoDMERB so they can forward it to the Waiver Authority at USAFA.

*If* USAFA deems you a competitive applicant, they will initiate the process. You should receive an email from USAFA notifying you that they have initiated a waiver review. This should happen prior to anything being updated in DoDMERB. In DD’s case, she received the email about a week before DoDMERB requested AMI.

Under waiver review just means that DoDMERB has completed their evaluation and that the materials are available to the SAs.

The phrase “under waiver review” can be confusing. If your status is “under waiver review”, it does not mean that they are reviewing your waiver. It means that they are reviewing your package to determine IF they will request a waiver for you.

My son's portal always shows a status change before he receives an email, generally by about a week. His portal changed to under waiver review early last week, and his email notifying him of that change and the AMI request arrived Monday. Hope that helps.

If your daughter has significant information to add to her file that she believes would influence a decision, then I would go ahead and submit it. It's not going to hurt to have it in her file.

My daughter had AMI needed. She sent everything she had available in a letter indicating she had submitted all available information. DD at night put my daughter under medical review; in the morning, she was disqualified. I read that to start a waiver by the academy, it has to indicate medical disqualification. Her admission team has notified her that her kit is Complete. The admission committee is reviewing it. It's all new to us, and we are just, in a comical way, trying to decipher what the wording in the emails can mean.

I sent dodmerb my complete medical record and letters supporting that the condition wouldn't affect me before they asked for anything. I also wrote a personal statement for each condition and couple months later I got the waiver without AMI requests. If you wanna get ahead of the curve, those two are good baseline documents to provide.

Any updates on this at all? We are still waiting...

I'm speaking from an experience of one ds. If it says DQ, its usually the end of the road. AMI means they are still working on it for you. Once you get the DQ stage usually you don't get a waiver for a period of time. They can tell you how long that period is. If it was waiverable they would have said "under waiver review" and then it would go DQ. If you're already at DQ I think its the end of the road. Fill us in if you've learned otherwise.

If it says "under waiver review" that means USAFA asked for a waiver, not necessarily that the condition isn't waiverable. An important distinction as DQ is for all commissioning sources but may be waiverable just because the AFA didn't ask for one.
