Anyone happen to know how feasible walking onto USNA’s Lacrosse team is? Waiting on an appointment but am definitely interested in trying to walk on.
It’s potentially feasible for someone who can play at D1 level. During plebe summer, the varsity teams hold tryouts. Discuss with your coach whether you have the abilities and experience to be competitive.Anyone happen to know how feasible walking onto USNA’s Lacrosse team is? Will get kicked out or stickMy son get kicked out of the wrestling room if he receives and appointment….or prove to himself and the coaches he is tough enough and stay
A great but short simple way to tell if you are d-1 material for the USNA ( better than asking your hs coach as I suggested)Are you a D1 caliber athlete? If you haven't been approached or recruited by other coaches before now your chances are slim to none.
If you are a recruited athlete but haven't been talking to Navy then I suppose it is possible.
I totally agree with the above comments. Lots of kids are late bloomers or overlooked. Check out Pat Spencer, Tewaaraton winner from Loyola, as an example of one. Undersized sophomore bloomed in last 2 years of H.S. Of course, he was a one of a kind. But sometimes good recruits are over looked, make yourself known to the coaches now don’t wait for tryouts. If your hs or club coach thinks you can play d-1 have them contact the staff directly.
it can’t hurt in any way
Solid analysis. My outside observation of USNA mens lax
Some d1 schools near me , quality schools with decent to good lax programs, are not recruiting for a national championship.
They want to be good. So they recruit ** and *** kids that have slipped thru the cracks or likely play for a public school.
Navy is going after the **** and *****. HS player. They are trying for the best out of the Baltimore and DC area private schools and Long Island, etc etc.
They are trying for national championships.
Tough year so far——lots of injuries to starters and half the team with food poisoning —- but many of those playing a major role are plebs or youngsters. And next years class might be better than those two as far as talent.
Beat Army
Is there a list anywhere of “club” sports? My DS is a multiple sport athlete and probably borderline D1 in 2 but hasn’t really been interested in pursuing them in the future to concentrate on his navy experience.

Two of a kind and probably more. Rob Pannell out of Smithtown West. Never a D1 offer.I totally agree with the above comments. Lots of kids are late bloomers or overlooked. If you want this, pursue it until you get a final no. Your club coach should be able to give you a good read.
EDITED: additional comments spot on. If you haven't had interest already, chances are slim.
Are you using Rob as an example of an overlooked ** in HS that got no d-1 offers and then went on to greatness?Capt MJ above with some of the soundest advice.
One of the greatest players to ever play college lacrosse was never a D1 recruit. He played for Smithtown High School West in New York. Not a single offer from any D1 schools came his way. He was completely overlooked.
Today that person wears an NCAA championship ring. Holds the number 4 spot for most points in D1 men’s lacrosse history. He won the Tewaaraton Trophy in 2013. Voted NCAA D1 lacrosse player of the year in both 2011 and 2013. Member of Team USA in 2014 and 2018 and voted All World in 2014 and 2018.
Late Bloomers Pannell, Holman Loathe Early Recruiting
Team USA's Rob Pannell and Marcus Holman think the current state of recruiting in lacrosse is broken.www.usalaxmagazine.com
Above is the link to the story of Rob Pannell. Not every non recruited D1 lacrosse player shares the same story. I will say that there are plenty of non recruited d1 athletes who go on to enjoy their time playing a sport they obviously love at the D1 level. There are likely more who don’t make the cut but 40 years later they won’t be living with the regret of not having tried.
If you don’t make the cut and love the game then club lacrosse is a great alternative.
You will always miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.
for the women's team there are several walk ons on the team - this plebe class has 2, last year 0 made it, the year before that 1 made it - you just never know until you try! we have a good friend on the mens team and I think it is harder to walk on the mens team bc the size of the team is already very large. if you get an appointment, during plebe summer you can go to the lacrosse work outs during sports period which happen during the second half of plebe summer. the club lax teams are very good especially the mens bc many of the varsity players went to the club team after being cut.Anyone happen to know how feasible walking onto USNA’s Lacrosse team is?
