DS is class of 27. Wanting to book lodging for parent weekend in October. Do the cadets have walking privledges or passes for that weekend? We’re only going to get a hotel room if the they don’t. Otherwise we’re looking to book a airbnb if he can go off campus that weekend. Please let me know. Thx!

I think your wife just asked on the WP Moms page. No one knows what the degree of privileges will be that weekend--and you won't know until near it. In generally, you won't see your cadet very much that weekend. Maybe (MAYBE) somewhere on post on Friday night--the Thayer or Bowling Alley...He will have a parade before the game (but maybe you will see him at a tailgate), you will spend time together on Saturday after the game--could be on post, walking privileges or 25 miles. You will see him again early on Sunday until at least the afternoon...but he will have a lot of homework...as it is a busy football weekend, Sunday will be the day to do that homework.

Of course, he could take a pass--but it is wasted as he cannot take it really until after the game...better to use it for Labor Day or Columbus Day weekends when it is the full three days. (If you live in MD/DC/VA...he can come home on the parents bus round trip!)

Plebes will likely only have walking privileges on Parents Weekend (based on the last two years experience). They usually are not allowed to take walking privileges on Friday night of that weekend. They could conceivable take pass after their last duty on Saturday (usually the football game), but that would be a wasted pass for little more than 24 hours away. They should save their passes for the long weekends of the semester and/or Army-Navy. If you are affiliated with a large West Point Parents Club, they will more than likely host a post-game tailgate on Saturday afternoon. That is a good opportunity to spend time with your cadet and other cadet families.

This year we got a non-chargeable spirit pass that weekend to leave post, since we won the football game. But if we didn't win, I'd suspect that it would've been the normal 5-mile walking privileges for plebes. Much better for upperclassmen who can take OPPs that day after the game to go off post.

Plebe year, DS could only go to the off post with geographical limit and in uniform but had to be back at 10pm (or maybe 11pm). They could not spend the night off post.
