Watches for beast/academic year?

Hi everyone!

There has been some buzz in a couple of the 2024 group chats over what watches are within regulation for beast and the actual school year. I know that there are no smart watches allowed during Beast, but are there regulations in regards to color? Does the band have to be black, or can it be an army green? If a watch has a white bezel and black band, is that within regulation?

Thanks for all the help! I appreciate it :) If anyone has any recommendations for good watches too, feel free to drop them below.

I got the DW5600, it's got most of the features that you'd need from a digital watch, and is pretty affordable. It doesn't have that vibration alarm that a lot of people talk about, however, but I don't know how crucial that is.

My advice - don't spend a lot. Many watches break during beast due to the rough conditions. I believe they sell a (about $35 dollars) watch at the C store so you can get one there if you don't get around to getting one before you arrive at WP. Get your fancy watch after you become a plebe.

Color should just be conservative. Don't wear a hot pink watch to R-Day. I recommend a Casio G-Shock/Baby-G for smaller wrists. Then a Garmin Instinct for the academic year if that's something you find useful to you. Casio watch was fine for CBT.

I wore this exact watch for CBT. Did the job.

My DD had the baby G and it worked great, said an alarm would have been nice but wasn’t a deal breaker. For the academic year she has an Apple Watch but is switching to a Garmin because it does a better job of tracking fitness activities.

I'm wearing a G-Shock right now, but I found it on the street while running. That Baby-G is more like $60. There's no way I pay $60 for a plastic watch.
I think $25 is my upper limit for one of these "expendable" watches. I am a real cheapskate, however. ;)

Some version a G-Shock for Beast. My DS '21 still uses his for field trainings. Otherwise he just uses an Apple Watch during the school year.
