Way off topic but figured here might be best to ask

Are there any good forums to join for active duty army discussions. DS 2LT is done with specialty school FA and now at Ft Carson in a Stryker combat team Says he is just waiting around for a job to open up but has no idea when as a lot of new 2ndLT's are there. Wondering how that all works.

FB Dad’s page is pretty low key.
But be careful about posting too much on social media.
First off there is the OPSEC consideration. You can be guaranteed that the Chinese and Russians will see anything posted about any officer on social media.
Second, parents post things on the SA FB pages that are given a pass while their kid is a Cadet/Midshipmen, but could lead to a tap dance in front of their boss in the fleet.

As far as the jobs, it’s a combination of luck, perseverance, performance, and sometimes knowing the right person. It’s funny in the Army, sometimes the person who comes in when a unit is “fat” gets to go to cool schools or perhaps even a nice TDY. Keep your ears open. Go by the S-1 from time to time. You never know what kind of crazy tasking will come down.

Lots of possible outcomes. Our kid was supposed to go to Polk after BOLC but it turned out that where he went to BOLC needed more of these newly minted 2LTs to stay, so he ended up staying there and never went to Polk. That sure was an unexpected turn of events.

Go do the Manitou Incline and Rudy's afterwards for a breakfast burrito or Bar-B-Que and a cold beverage in the afternoon. Many soldiers make it a part of their workout regimen on the weekend. It can be a good place to network with other soldiers outside of his unit.

As far as "waiting around" goes, don't. Be smart. Be resourceful. Don't be afraid to ask for things. All manner of US/NATO FA is being used in Ukraine. Special Forces 10th Group, whose area of responsibility is Europe, is based at Ft. Carson. I don't know if they employ FA officers, but they do employ a variety of MOSes in support.

Outside of networking, explore the non-chain food options in the Springs, such as Bingo Burger, 503W, The Well, Trails End Taproom, and The Garden for a good beer and food truck
