How do overnight passes work for doolies? I’m looking to go somewhere from October 9-10 and the USAFA calendar says there are no classes on the 11th. Wondering if going somewhere then would be possible before I plan it further.

We went and spent the weekend with our doolie in October of his doolie year (2020 and didn’t have parent weekend so it was the first time we saw him since I day). They have to get approval from their squadron leaders and it could be rescinded if the squadron or doolie gets in trouble. Definitely a risk, but ours ended up being well worth it. We rented a house, as doolies just want to chill, sleep and don’t want to wear the uniform much.

It 100% depends on your squadron. If you have a valid reason to go i.e. Wedding, Birthday Party, not able to see family due to COVID,etc. you can fill out paperwork and get AOC approval, that protects you if squad leadership decides to restrict your class due to performance, however, if you don't file paperwork C4Cs are currently allowed to spend 1 weekend overnight per month( defined as Release from Quarters/ Last Military Duty- Academic Call to Quarters or Taps), so at best you could have Saturday at 06:00- Monday at 01:30 without paperwork.

BLUF: Yeah, you can go.

According to the schedule of calls, Sundays and federal holidays are for personal development time and no training can be conducted. The 9th is a Sunday and the 10th is Columbus Day, so the cadet wing will not have anything for you those days. Your weekend overnight pass is good for one night, so you can leave as early as 0515 (release from quarters) on Sunday morning and you must be back in squadron by 1915 (roll call) Monday night. You should receive two weekend overnight passes per month, so if there is no training on Saturday (which there shouldn't be), you can use both on the same weekend and have from 0515 Saturday to 1915 Monday.

Of course, there may be extenuating circumstances such as personal, squadron-, group-, or wing-wide restrictions, but I wouldn't be worried about that in early October - all the forums say that four-degrees can't ever go anywhere that early in their cadet career, but that's just not true - once parents weekend hits, you'll be as free as you're going to get the whole year. Go ahead and plan it, and the worst that happens is you have to request an SCA or eSSS for it.

I saw on the website it says doolies will be given overnight passes starting in their spring semester. So does that mean I won’t be able to get one for October? Also, is there a radius you have to stay inside of?

As of the most recent AFCWI 36-3501, fourth-class cadets are given weekend overnight passes after Parent's Weekend. There is a radius you have to remain within, but by filling out a Form 99, you can request to exceed that limit.
