Weight Requirements

If you do DODMERB and weigh over the max,
I'm 5 foot 7 and a half and weigh 121 pounds. The weight requirement for 5 foot 7 is 120 and the requirement for 5 foot 8 is 125 pounds. I run xc and track so I have a pretty skinny build. Should I focus on getting my weight up? I'm a bit worried about how gaining weight will impact my running though.
My ds was under the weight requirements by about 5 lbs. USMA had him do the body composition test because he was out of the range. Guess he passed because we never heard another word about it. USAFA didn't say or do anything.

He did get extra protein shakes during Beast to keep his weight up.

Oh alright, thank you! I assume you have to be under a certain body fat% to be cleared if you're a little underweight?

Body fat standards would still apply. We got them impression that it was standard procedure for a body fat test to be done if the candidate is outside the weight range whether high or low. It seemed silly to test ds's body fat as it is so low but it was very easy to comply with the request.

Perhaps do some weight lifting and eat some body builder type protein shakes. My son ran cross country with built out muscles, and didn't slow him down. In your case, only a few pounds of muscle added,(to be in safer range), would not hurt a bit, i wouldn't think. A little added upper body strength will help you in other areas as well.
Muscle weighs more than fat, so....

No don't fret over this. My DS is above weight according to his height. However, he is sold muscle as runner and powerlifter. His Dr noted this during physical for very little body fat and his muscle composition.

Weight could come up again for certain communities. I know we have hard a minimum and maximum weight for Naval Aviation. 103 lbs is the minimum and the maximum is somewhere around 230 or 240 lbs, they will make you get to and stay in this range if you select SNA or SNFO.

I probably will do that all summer as I won't be racing this summer, just training. Thanks!
