West Point Rejection Letter

If your letter specifically states you are medically DQ'ed then your chances for prep school for the upcoming academic year are probably next to NIL. That said, you may have been DQ'ed for a condition that can be remediated so you should definitely reach out to Mr. Mullen at DODMERB to understand what your options may be. Many candidates who receive a DQ letter are able to find a way forward, but you must persist. Best of luck.

You stated you have a letter of disqualification. I would not consider that the same as a rejection letter. Were you disqualified for something (like medical), or did it say you are not being offered an appointment?

As a side note, I don't think that if you are eliminated from consideration from appointment that automatically removes you from consideration for the Prep School. However, if you were actually disqualified for some reason (like medical), then it is a totally different situation.

So my medical is under the review process and no decision has been made on it. I attached the letter I received.

Where does it indicate you were disqualified? While it does appear to be a rejection letter, it seems instead to focus on the competitiveness of the applications rather than a disqualification. I defer to others on where this leaves you for prep school/other options. I wish you luck as you pursue other opportunities.

If I recall seven years ago, my DS received an almost identical letter from USNA and USMA. (He ultimately received an Army ROTC scholarship).

I believe that letter essentially means you are no longer being considered for this year's candidacy, but says nothing about medical qualification.
As @OfficerToBe750 states, it is addressing the competitiveness of your application.

Thank you all for the explanations and insight, I really appreciate it. I’m waiting on my rep to let me know if I’m still able to receive an appointment from the prep school. My current plan is to accept my rotc scholarship to Virginia Tech and reapply to West Point.

An ROTC ride to V Tech is awesome, I'm sure you'll do great.

If you really want it apply again next year. My DS got that letter his senior year. He was still considered for a prep slot after that but did not get one. He applied again as a college freshman, worked hard on his fitness scores, and got in on his second try. He loves it.

Was he notified again when he didn’t get the prep slot or did he just never hear anything?

Did you have a LOA? Were you still in the “Medical Waiver Review” status when you received this letter?
I never received an LOA. My medical is still being reviewed by DODMETS as my medical exams were taken on January 24th. I found out from my rep that it was an academic disqualification due to my SAT score. He told me I should still have a chance of receiving an appointment to the prep school.

This is very much correct. The prep school is always looking for qualified candidates who have some risk (like academics), so you may still have an opportunity at the prep school. Regardless, an ROTC scholarship to Tech is outstanding also. My son received a similar offer last year. No shame in that opportunity.

Good Luck especially on prep school.

Prep schools IMO as a P and GP are full of young people the military and the SA want badly. Despite them falling short on some physical tests like pull ups or a below average gpa and test scores ——the military will invest a year trying to strengthen, or smarten them up because they offer something unique the military wants.

Woman, minorities, prior enlisted, recruited sports types , will take up most (but not 100% all) of the admissions to prep school.

Your chances improve if you are one or more of these.

My DS received a disqualification letter and the CFA has changed from "under review" to red. Is he still in the running from USMAPS? He is medically qualified and has a nomination. Thank you in advance for your assistance

Don't count on USMAPS. If he is interested, he should reach out to his FFR and to his Regional recruiting offer and tell them that he is interested in USMAPS.

I reached out to both and my regional recruiting officer said he would make a note on my file that I was interested in USMAPS.

Good job. Make another awesome plan & then see what how it goes for you. Have you heard about your Army ROTC application yet?
