So I was doing research and saw that athletics time runs from 3:30 to 6:30 and the rest of the evening until 11:00 is study time is this the same for track or D1 sports at Westpoint across the board or will my studies take a hit due to time devoted to sports?

I would tell you that somewhere around 25% of the corps participate in D1 athletics and still make time to do well in the classroom. As a cadet you will have fully days regardless of what activities you chose. Google 2020 Marshall Scholarship winners and you will see an example of cadet who excels on the track as well as in the classroom.

Your studies may take a slight hit depending on your ability to remain dynamic and prioritize during the season. As you know, it’s not realistic to expect success on the track with sleep from 2300 to 0430 (atleast for the distance gang). Your studying schedule also depends on your major and the sort.

Playing a D1 sport does not necessarily imply a hit to grades. I actually had slightly higher grades in-season than off-season because during the season I relentlessly prioritized and eliminated non-productive activities.

Those who don't play a D1 sport or are off-season have required activities that in-season D1 athletes are exempted from and participate in other voluntary activities offered at USMA. The time requirements for Corps Squad athletes are more than for most other cadets, but the difference is not as great as it might first appear - USMA has a way of filling the free time cadets think they have.

Grades are more a function of ability and study habits than whether or not one plays a D1 sport.

What do you mean exempt from certain activities ?
