I'm currently a sophomore looking to attend West Point. My GPA at the end of my third semester was a 5.14 on a 5 point scale, my PSAT was a 1230 (650 reading and writing, 580 in math), and my ACT Aspire was in the 26-29 range. I'm in both Varsity softball and Varsity wrestling. Based on that alone, what are my chances of getting admitted? And what should I do in the meantime to prepare?

Lots of older 'chance me' threads you can review that ask basically the same question. None of us work in admissions, so all you will really get are opinions and the real answer is the SA's look at a lot more than GPA (actually class rank) and SAT/ACT scores, so we can't really provide an answer. Most SA's also post information on their websites that show the potential background they are looking for in applicants and/or the profile of the current class.

The process is far too complicated to estimate your chances of appointment. If possible, you should attend a Regional Commander (RC) presentation in your area and speak with the RC. They can give you the best assessment of your competitiveness.

To prepare take challenging courses, especially math, science, and English. Do a lot of test prep - try get ACT above 30. Get leadership activities - captain of a team, student body officer, etc. Attend Girls State - automatic points for attendance and more if you get a leadership position.

With that information alone, that is not sufficient for me to give an accurate prediction. On the note of the SAT, however, if you would like practice, I self-studied Khan Academy this past summer via their SAT tutorials (1540 with 7/5/7 essay on the August test). It's probably the best source, since it is not only free but also self-paced and sanctioned by the college board. With enough practice, an 800 on the math section should be feasible for anyone who has completed algebra and geometry. Good luck studying!
