Hello! Im in the class of 2025 and very interested in attending the naval, coast guard or merchant marine academy and I want to see roughly where I would stand. I am a white male coming from a high income family. I will have recommendation letters from a former Surface Warfare Officer, my Head of School and My Soccer Coach that I can choose from. I also currently have 147.5 service hours. I also transfered schools from a public highschool to my current school freshmen year. Some Activities I am involved in include:

First, high income is irrelevant. Second, what STEM classes have you taken and what grades? And, are you considering also taking the ACT test?

I would highly recommend filling out the Recruit Me form on the USCGA Athletics website and let Coach Parsons know you are interested. Being a recruited athlete is very helpful to the admissions process at CGA if you tick off all the other boxes.

I can offer that my son went to every possible recruiting event that CG had to offer. Kept in close touch with his AO, pursued the coaches, formed relationships with current cadets and got their advice, and basically just kept raising his hand to convince them that the USCGA wasn't just another school on his list of colleges but was his first choice based on both what he could bring to the Academy and what he would learn there as well. Good luck. It's a l-o-n-g process. If you want it, you've got to really stick with it.

I 100% agree. I went to every recruiting event that I could at the CGA and in my state. I constantly emailed with my AO and with my coach, as well as found myself role models and mentors out in the fleet and attending the academy. There's no guarantees, but building a strong resume for myself and staying engaged with the CGA staff definitely helped me.

Hi again! I know I just posted onto this thread but I went through the admissions process this year and figured I'd provide a few things that were helpful to me. (I'm not an AO or a CG staff member, so these tips are purely based on my experience and you can approach the admissions process the way you choose to!)
1. Boost your GPA as much as possible with extra credit, quiz and test retakes, and anything else that's offered at your school!
2. I retook the SAT's and ACT's multiple times, to get the best score possible. If you haven't already, I recommend trying out the ACT's as well, because some kids (like me) do better on them than the SAT's.
3. Find as many leadership roles as possible in the activities that you participate in. I also found it helpful with volunteer work to do many hours with one place that I was committed too, rather than one hour at many different places. However, it's up to you, because variety is nice too!
4. Like I said earlier, build a support system. It's not just to make yourself known throughout the admissions process, but also to help you get your questions answered. I talked to many AOs, officers and enlisted CG members, and cadets!

Hope this helps! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about my admissions process!

Alright thank you I will definitely do that.

I have taken both Ap computer sciences which I got A's in, Honors earth space science - A, Honors Biology - B, Honors Chem - A, Honors Geometry - B, Honors Algebra 2 - B, Honors PreCalc - A. Ive taken the ACT too but my score was worse compared to my SAT so I just decided it would be best to put out my SAT score instead. I am retaking it in august to try and get the math section up.

Ok thanks. So this year I will have semester long classes instead of year long classes like I do normally because I am doing dual enrollment. Do you think these classes would contribute to my GPA?

If you can take AP Calculus and AP Chemistry this year and do well, that would help your academics. USCGA wants to see you taking the highest classes available to you and doing well in those classes. And STEM classes would be the most important. Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics would probably be the most important. If you are taking those as Dual Enrollment, that should look good as well.

I am taking a 4 credit Calc course next year at Mount Saint Mary's but Im trying to figure out a way to take either Chem or Physics. Both have lab times which would make me miss sports practices and games often, is it worth it to take either class?
