I've been a linguist in the navy for two years now, and I am currently a candidate for USNA. I just received my SECNAV Nomination and am a strong candidate. What are the real numbers for us? why do so few of us go to the academy? do not enough of us hear or are they extremely selective? Im curious as to why the spots are never filled. Any input is appreciated, Thanks.

CTI3,

A lot of enlisted don't attend the academy because:

#1 They are extremely selective with 17,000 applications/yr
#2 The reqs. for the academy really weed out a lot of enlisted because of the age requirement, no children, not married. A lot of enlisted guys dont want to leave the fleet, lose pay and go back to the "boot camp" enviroment. I on the other hand think that's a small price to pay for a commision. Thats just me though. But I understand where you're coming from. I've been in 3 years, serving on a DDG, past BlueJacket of the quarter, present BlueJacket of the Year. Just be patient and hope for the best like the rest of us.
